Hi

I have a XXL (I think it is a OneXXL) that won't switch on.

I haven't used it in a while so I chaeged it up overnight (Green light is ON and not flashing) but even holding the button down for over two minutes doesn't start it.

I have never connected it to a computer in the past but have just downloaded Home and tried.  My PC doesn't regognise any device connected (I guess this is because it won't switch on!)

Any ideas?

Thanks

If you have not used it in while it may just be the battery totally dead..... The gps gets it power from the battery even when plugged into the charger. So if the battery volts won't come up to a reasonalbe level the gps wont start...... Leave the unit on a charger for a couple of days, sometimes they will come back to life.  If the unit is under warranty you can get it replace at TomTom.... if not you can replace the battery yourself.

What are the first 2 characters of the serial number.

Thanks for that.  It's on charge.

    Serial No starts with RW.

    Cheers

    Hi,

I've just received a brand new XXL model sat nav as a present. Straight out of the new shrink wrapped box, I've charged it up, it is recognised by my PC so managed to install the TomTom software, but when I turn the unit on for normal operation, it makes the start up noise but then just sits on the Tom Tom flash screen and nothing happens.

Ive tried holding the on button for 15+ seconds to reset it (after 15 secs there is a green screen the the unit sitches off, and restarts if I continue to hold the on button in). but I just keep getting the same lock up at the TomTom screen.

    Cheers,

    Andy

When you say it "just sits on the Tom Tom flash screen and nothing happens" how long are you letting it "sit" there?

There were a couple of times I've had to wait 4 - 5 minutes for mine to continue.

Try it again and be patient and it might start up.

    Thanks for the reply,

I've left it a good hour or two and nothing happens :-(

Looks like it's going straight back to Argos!

I have an XXl 530S-2gb which also will not turn on when you plug in car-left in for 2 hours. Tried it on two different cars but nothing.   Some mentioned a battery? Is there one inside the Tom Tom which can be changed?

My TomTom XXL will not operate what ever I do.  When I plug it into my computer, my computer disconnects the USB ports because "something is drawing too much power".  So, I can't charge it.

Can you charge the gps from the car charger? If your computer is warning you that a device is drawing too much current then there is a good chance that there is  a short in the usb plug on the gps or in the usb cable. There is not much you can do about the gps but you can try a different cable.

The TomTom blew a fuse with the car charger.

How does one open the TomTom to look inside?  I find no screws.

    Thanks.

This video should give you a good idea on how to open the case.
