I have a new XL 340 and it is the 2nd one. 1st one charged up and lasted one trip. Tried to charge or connect and will not do so. If I use the car charger, the light on the car charger is green UNTIL I plug in the charger to the TT.

2 GPS new with the same problem???

Have you figured out your issue yet?

What software are you using Tomtom Home or myTomtom? The start 20 requires myTomTom.

Also you will want to check the link for infomation on mytomtom:

    http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13151/session/L3NpZC9vT0Flc1ZDaw%3D%3D

Not all features of myTomTom are available yet.

So there is no point in returning your unit, unless you are planning to return it and exchange it for something like an XXL or XL. Because there is probably nothing wrong with it. The problems are with the myTomTom software and the website.

im using the tomtom home, little green box on side of computer, rang up tomtom this morning and the RUDE chap said its all changed and you cant connect nothing like the old xl machine as they have upgraded software

he said b4 it was other tomtom users who added point of interests onto the site of other tomtom users like myself could download not them

now its all changed as ONLY tomtom can ONLY add poi's hence why when u search for a resturant u get all of the local dodgy kebab shops, who no doubt r paying money for this service.

    totally crap in my opinion

now im going to return mine back to argos sayin it dont work and GET MY MONEYBACK as ive still got 8 days left (will go on wend when the students are in around 4.55pm when there ready to go home at 5pm so a easy refund LOL)  should be enough time to hop on ebay and by a xl, just like the one i used to own until some scums of the earth stole it from my car, what bloody scums we have in todays world!

No wonder them x'l's are holding there money, ive rarely seen one fetch <65quid in minted condition

And to add the attitude from the tomtom chap was not good, i made him well aware that tomtom are meant to make people's lives easier to difficult by designing a new system which easily b connected

the only thing i will miss on the new tomtom is the lane guidance

    thanks

p.s. tomtom will no doubt go downhill with this new non user friendly operating system, just like nokia

I understand your position and don't disagree, My hope is that they don't switch over the xl and xxl to mytomtom at least until they get all the problems resolved and functionality restored. My guess is that upper management pushed to roll it out before the software developers were ready to release it. You see this type of thing all over industry.

the more u think about it, u know why tomtom has gone down this route; MONEY just think how many local cafes/ takeaway's would ay a couple of quid or pence to be located on everyone's tomtom, its just a rolling lottery for them, argos/ all the supermarkets are paying to get mapped on tomtom as it brings the punters in

    LOL

    Mazza,

If you connect to your PC, then turn on the GPS do you get the same message? How about if you plug it in, hold the on button till the double drum roll; then safely disconnect (Device/Disconnect) turn off the GPS and plug it in and try again?

Here are is a link on connection problems provided by Zeus on another post: http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7394/kw/recognize

It doesn't work, there is no connection. The TT unit won't respond to anything, the PC can't see it. I have tried everything and I'm not new to computing/software.

    I give up :(

Total rubbish and not recommended, Start 20, dont waste your money buy something else.

Since you have the Start 20 you should be using MyTomTom. Read through this and see if any of this helps. http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/15019/p/141%2C2700/c/2356

Are you using the cable that came with the device? Use a usb port on the back, not front of the computer. Try resetting the device by holding the power button about 10 seconds or so till you hear the drum sounds.
