Hi, I have an XXL 550  2GB.  I can't seem to find the correct manual.   My TomTom does not have the same screens as the ones in the manuals I have downloaded.  Please help with the correct manual number.  Thank you.

Apparently yours uses the same manual as the TomTom XL: http://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals/xliqr2/ReferenceGuide-US/refman/TomTomXL-en-US.pdf

I have been trying to figure out how to get a user manual for my newly purchase GPS.  I have a VIA 1535 M (as stated on the box).  Model 4EQ50 Z1230 (as stated on the GPS).  I tried following the instructions on the leaflet that came with the product, which sends me to www.tomtom.com/support, then Main Menu>Help>product manuals.  I do not even see "Main Menu".

    Help Please

Just tap the central part of the status bar. A slider will apear and you can adjust the sound volume to your desired loudness. In the same way you can change the loudness of hands-free calls from your mobile phone during a call. Both adjustments are stored separately.

It comes with manual loaded on the device itself. Sorry, Go Live 1535 does not have a downloadable manual as of now. You got a welcoming guide and an installation poster. What more do you want? LOL. TomTom saved a couple of bucks by not printing a manual, but installing what they call a manual on the device itself.

I have a newly purchased tom-tom start 50M.I've heard that tom-tom car GPS 's have a lot of additional features available to them that were not available with my Magellan Roadmate. The tom-tom start 50M came without a user's manual. The one page "poster" provides only the most basic of instructions. Nothing to do with the programming at all.

So I figured that the manual was to be easily found on the website. Quite the contrary, this website does not even acknowledge tom-tom start 50M as one of tom-tom's models, even after I entered the serial #.

FYI: I've tried finding the users Manual on the device itself through using the touchscreen, and there is no such option. Available options consist of: volume of preferences; brightness preferences; driving few preferences; home and favorites; voice and images;... Switch map; map corrections; manage POIs; disable speed cameras; planning preferences;... Change language; set units; set clock; keyboard preferences; & finally: reset factory settings. 15 options spread over three pages. Any other help. I tried to get on the device refers only to destinations and routes.

    Very frustrated. Please help.

This answer is incomplete...  I have no idea why people cannot give complete answers...

    under "select your product"

    choose CAR NAVIGATION

    THEN

    choose START 50

You cannot choose START 50 directly which is what this person would have you believe.  Why people cannot be more precise is beyond me.

Or better yet... click on this link for the english language version:

     http://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals/START_40_series_START_50_series/manual.htm

In the meantime, I see another person posted a link to ALL available downloads which is a good link also... BOTH are moderators but the 2nd one gave you the BEST answer of the 2.  He got you to where you want to go directly.

Darn, I failed to notice the distinction.  Thanks for pointing it out to me.

Hope MVL gives more complete responses there then he did here.

DHN was right on the money with his... I assumed he responded when he saw the lame response from MVL.  Good for him!

    Lighten up man!!

So mvl left out one step...... which should be obvious to anyone.

Go spend some time reading mvl's responses here to users and see how informative they are before you start castigating somebody like that.

    Totally uncalled for.

A lot of people on here totally have no idea what questions to ask or even how to get started with their TomTom Device.  For instance the guy who asked the question originally, i.e. bought it used with no instructions, etc.

Just easier to be as precise as possible.

You took the time to acutally post the links.  Just as I did.  I wonder why more people just don't do that instead of describing something (in this case an incomplete description) when the link will take them right to it?

I expect more out of people who are moderators.

We have an old saying:  It takes just as long to do it right as to do it wrong.  He composed an entire message but gave wrong instructions.

If the original poster could have figured it out for themselves, don't you think they would have instead of asking for help here?

Easier on the person requesting advice if we lay out every last single step, rather than rely on common sense of the person requesting advice to fill in the gaps.

Harder on the person responding to type in every last step.   I agree that a Tomtom employee should be as specific as possible and get the precise answer because they are being paid to do so, for us that volunteer our time, you should be happy with what you get.   If you prefer you could spend 30 minutes holding on phone support at your lunch break, if you want someone to lay out all the obvious specifics...

No offense, but you make it sound like it would have been a burden or ardous task to give complete information.  You left out 1 of 2 steps.  You got him to the drop-down menu, but you skipped the step where he had to select his class of GPS then select START 50.  This wasn't some multi-step process, requiring significant detail or effort.

I am sure you answer more complex questions and provide excellent assistance.  I had 2 major points: (1) Why didn't you give a more complete answer in this instance? or (2) Better yet, just provide a direct link?

The original poster obviously doesn't have any knowledge about his GPS or he could have figured this out by himself.  Sometimes people come here to be held by the hand and guided through EVERY step..  It wasn't like it was a 15-step process and OOPS! you left one out --- it was a 2-step process and OOPS! you left one out.

Your fellow moderator from TomTomForums.com must have noticed the deficiency in your answer also, because he immediately posted a very thorough reply. Yes, he defended you against my comments (which is admirable) but he obviously felt your reply was not complete also -- OR -- why would he post a better response then the one you provided?

Don't be so thin skinned.  Interestingly, except to comment on my comment, you haven't even edited your response to make it more complete now that it's dificiency has been noted.

Even moderators learn from visiting these FORUMS.

Thanks for your assistance. The fact is, the only reason I couldn't find the manual, is that I didn't see M after 50-55. So I took it to be a different model than 50M. I had my error figured out & the manual found within 20 minutes of my posting. When I tried to go back in and edit my post, I couldn't find my post. I found instructions about how to it at the post, but no suggestions about how to access my previous post. And no links for it on any page I could find.  Thanks again.
