Since I last renewed my subscription to UK maps in December, I have been unable to update my unit. I can open TomTom Home2 and log in but every time I try to update my device, TomTom Home crashes. MS Windows displays a warning TomTom HOME has stopped working, with the following problem details:

I have viewed the advice on XL on the forum. I have tried switching the fire wall off. I have completely deleted Home and reinstalled twice. I have backed up using Explorer and re-formatted the unit and reinstalled. All to no effect. Every time I try to update, Home crashes.

Are my file so corrupt that my unit beyond hope?

You have an vsvcr80.dll error listed. Check this link on possible solutions.http://www.ehow.com/how_7157598_fix-msvcr80_dll-errors.html, However, if you can open TTHome but it only crashes on connection of your device, that may indicate your device is the problem.

More questions: Does your XL work other than the update problem?

    Hi, thanks for your reply.

    Followed instructions on ehow.

The file was missing from my Windows Vista  but it would not let me register the it. Two Warnings:Runtime Error.JPG

    msvcr80.dll failed.JPG

    Tried twice but still failed.

Do you know any other way to register DLL?

    Further Info:

    - TTHome opens ok but crashes when connecting device for updates - same message.

    - XL appears to work ok on it's own.

    Thanks.

Further info - If I try to view files on XL from TTHome it also crashes with same error. Only way to see files on XL is via Explorer.

Are you signed on to your computer with Administrator rights? Also, make sure you go to Windows Update and update all the windows software. I am still searching for more information.

Just double checked. W Update set to automatic daily check and my account type is Administrator, though I have noticed that some programs (e.g. Spybot), have to be manually run as Administrator to make them work. Is this a quirk of Vista?

I have the same issue with my TomTom One XL, it used to work properly with Windows 7. But since some update of Tom Tom Home, every time I start Tom Tom Home and connect the navigation device, the Home programme aborts.

If the newer Tom Tom Home versions don't work properly with the older One Xl device, the least Tom Tom should do is warn for updates to the Home programme!

Try running Home in XP compatible mode.

Sorry to hear that you also have a similar problem.

I was ready to give up, but as a last resort I tried reformating the One XL and reloading all files. The information is on the help screens, but not as one answer. Every time I reloaded the device at least one of the files reported as being corrupt. After reformatting several times, I eventually got the One XL to work (still with a corrupt file).

The next update caused a similar problem - strip out and reload again. I'm not looking forward to my next update!

TomTom still provide updates for the One XL but something changed at the end of last year and I have not had a 'clean' update ever since. I wonder if they test their own update son older models?

    Good luck,

    Steve

I ran the Tom Tom Home software on my W7 professional edition desktop using the Program Compatibility troubleshooter. And it worked fine!

I stil think it's weird that Tom Tom releases a new Home version that's not compatible with W7, even though the One XL is an older device.

Thanks for your advice. I believe I was running in XP mode, but was still struggling.

Your email has reminded me to update my OneXL again. I must confess that three months ago I upgraded my laptop to an I5 running Windows7 - what a difference! I loaded TomTom Home, but don't remember running an update.

Just run TomTom Home (first time in ages) and accepted the latest update. Connected my OneXL and accpted three assorted updates - no problems!!! Could this be a sign?

I suppose the test will be try a backup and see what happens. Maybe the new PC has fixed it? I'll have to let you know the results.

    Cheers Steve

    Hi again,

Two people replied in one day after no contacts for months. I just explained to dhn that I have finally  upgraded my laptop to an I5 with Win7 - what a difference. Just updated TomTom Home and updated One XL - No problems this time! Maybe this has fixed it - we shall see?

Could it be that TomTom are writing for latest version of Windows and backward compatibility is not too good? I was using Vista before - never my favorite OS!!

Going to try running a backup and see how that goes.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Good to hear you are back in business. This might be a dumb question, but is I5 the processor? Which browser are you using; I think I9 is now available but don't know if it is compatible with TTHome.
