I am trying to do this myself.  The help pages tell me to go to Warning Sounds in TomTom Home but when I do it tels me that my TomTom doesn't support that feature.  I do find that the support side for this Sat Nav is less than one would like.  I have an XL2 IQ routes edition (about 2 weeks old) which I understood was quite top of the range.

I have same model. I'm disappointed that this feature appears not to be available. Constantly looking at the device screen to check on speed limits seems to me to be a safety issue and maybe not that difficult for TomTom to correct.

Sorry, but no TomTom model with a '2' in its name is top of the range. Signifies a model with EasyMenu which means many fewer user choices/options.

this might help you as I have a xl live and if you tap the screen then go into live services in there you will see safety alerts tap that and you should have 4 icons  1 to report cameras a yellow triangle with change warning preferences which is what you need to tap and when you tap it you will get a list of all cameras all you need do then is add the sounds to which ones you want to or all the same if you wish let me know if you need more info

What TomTom 5 inch models have the speed alert  sound warning feature as well as the red flashing numbers when going over the posted limit? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Too me, it is better and safer to hear a warning rather than constantly looking at the  GPS. I don't intentionally speed ,but living in the mountains, it's easy to drift over the limit. Thanks

I have done it through the Safety Alert location.  It will prompt you through it.

I have just purchased a XL250 and am very disappointed that the speed limit audio warnings do not appear to be available on this model.  Has anyone been able to download or activate them on this model.  My previous OneXL purchased four years ago had this feature and was one of the most valuable things about it and saved many a speeding fine.  I thought I was upgrading not going backwards.

For the short answer, this feature should be found in the "Safety preferences". For the long answer, on the XL340 (for example), you need to navigate through the menus. From the normal driving view:

    1) Click on the map to access the Main Menu screen, 1 of 2,

    2) Click on "Change Preferences",

    3) In Preferences screen 1 of 6, click on Safety preferences,

    4) In Safety preferences 1 of 2, change nothing and click on Done,

    5) In Safety preferences 2 of 2, check the box next to "Warn when driving faster than allowed",

    6) From the next screen that appears, choose the warning signal desired,

    7) Click Done as many times as necessary to exit menus.

I'll try this later to see how it works, and if there's a problem with it, I'll get back here to edit this post.

Works perfectly as described above! I chose the "cow" alert for this, so my XL is now moooooing every time I go more than 3 MPH over the allowed speed! Very funny, so thank you for asking the question!

    hi there.

is there any way to adjust when it kicks in?  ours alerts when we go 10km per hour over the limit, which is WAY too fast... i'd like it to alert ATthe speed limit, or 1-2 km over...

    (we have a XXL 540)

@ kiwilynne: Probably not, at least I don't think so. It's about 3 MPH over the limit in the U.S.A. (which should be closer to 5 km/h, actually, but maybe this varies between countries). I think it matches the speed at which the speed indicator area background color turns red, instead of blue.

HI, I have read the forum and can't find my answer, does the XL250 have sound, speed warnings/alerts?

If so can you please outline step by step the process as i am about to take it back to the store and change it for another model.

    Thanks

Does anyone have a list of TomTom models which speed limit alarms work on?

I live in New Zealand and wish to purchase a in car navigation model that will warn me when I speed.

Am unable to find this information in the manuals online. Can anyone help?

    Regards

    Ben
