Will we ever get TomTom on Apple car play?

I have a new car which has CarPlay and also has Volkswagen's Discover navigation. I have previously been using TomTom on my iPhone for about 7 years. I have given the CarPlay Apple maps and the Discover navigation 2 months, but they really so bad that I am seriously think of mounting iPhone on my windscreen again, with ugly wires train line accross the vents, just so I can use TomTom again. I really don't want to do that and I might just live with the substandard navigation I am currently getting.

What is the obstacle that is stopping TomTom being on CarPlay? Is it a flat refusal by Apple because it competes with their maps application? That would seem unlikely as they have allowed the likes of Spotify on, which is an alternative to Apple Music. Is It a commercial decision by TomTom because of some onerous terms? In which case it has gone on long enough. We need quality navigation on CarPlay.

Hi all,

Thanks for all your feedback here!

I've got the following response from the product team regarding this:

Unfortunately CarPlay features are not yet available to navigation app developers. As soon as this situation changes you can be assured that we will be investigating the opportunity to add support for CarPlay to our apps.

Cheers, Mikko

Hi leahk,

Thanks for your feedback!

We receive similar feedback occasionally and log and report it to the product team. Unfortunately, at this point I have no further information as to when/whether this feature will become available. I'm not familiar with the technical or other challenges pertaining to this feature but my understanding is that it's not entirely up to us.

Our product team is focusing on developing the new GO Mobile app and you can see a list of some of the features currently planned for it here.

Cheers, Mikko

"I'm not familiar"

So could you get familiar with the matter?

I don't want to post any external links but Sygic has at least tried and published a statement about their progress with Apple CarPlay.

As more and more cars are getting CarPlay, I would suggest that the developers are wasting their time on TomTom go if CarPlay integration is not at the top of their list. Given the choice of having a slick integrated navigation solution with average capabilities and sticking the iPhone to their windscreen to get superior navigation capabilities, I suspect many will choose the former. I know I have. Even though I have a subscription for TomTom go, I have not used the app since I got CarPlay and doubt I will renew the TomTom go subscription unless it gains CarPlay support.

Tomtom really need to get on the CarPlay revolution. I can't see the opposition to it. Surely Tomtom see the financial benefits, we all still pay our subscriptions, and the option to get so many new subscriptions as people start to explore their new car features.

I've just bought a new Citroen and have entered the world of CarPlay for the first time. I'm afraid that unless TomTom gets connected, I don't see how I can justify my subscription to not use the big screen in my car and as described above have all the wires and craziness. Please sort this soon!
Hi,

This is the same question that we, customers, repeat periodically and never get a clear response by TomTom team.

I'm in the same situation: I bought an car with navigation system but also with car play link. In the case TomTom does not work with car play when my 3 years subscription to Go expires (I was a user of the old app), i will not renew it.

TomTom is much better in many ways that the integrated nav system, but will not put the phone in the windscreen anymore...

Please! Respond! Clarify us which are the problems to get TomTom into Car Play!
Yes sokarbar I'm in the same boat, have been using TomTom exclusively since way back to the GO960.

I didn't even use the Sat Nav built into my last Sportage. But I'm refusing to mount my iPhone to the windscreen in my new car, why should I when there's an 8 inch display.

I'll not be renewing my 3 year subscription either.

I know not everyone in the same boat will take to these forums like us but I think TomTom should pay attention to our requests as a representive sample of its local users. I remember how exited I was when the TomTom app hit the App Store, please TomTom make your users happy again, while you still have us.
That should read 'loyal users' not local, sorry, rant over... for now.

Thanks for your reply, time to hound apple then. Thanks
TomTom should put this case forward to EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager.
It is not legal for Apple to exclude consumers access to other software (TomTom) in this way

Based of the current development progress of TomTom iOS GO Mobile, I'm not expecting any problems to be fixed and certainly no new functionality to be added in the foreseeable future, i.e. it's taken TomTom over 18 months to get to this stage of TomTom iOS GO Mobile. Draw your own conclusions for the timeline of fixing problems and adding new functionality.
It's not a tomtom only problem. You dont have any other gps software than Apple Map in carplay. It's killing the interest of carplay.
Hi

TomTom, I dont understand that a big branch as yours, dont wont to be innovative.

I have used TomTom from when it was a software on a small tablet, to the Tomtom one, and to the Start 25 and now start 52.
I just got a new car with Carplay and you should be in front here also..

Now others are starting to provide Navigation to carplay.
As Nacer said it’s not just a TomTom problem. I can’t see any gps apps ( apart from applemaps) that support CarPlay. I assume Apple are being quite restrictive...
I can se that now.. sorry..

Well then I have check if it is possible to get for Mirrorlink, on my Android phone..
What I read last is that Waze dus support apple carplay now? I really hope that TomTom Go will be supported as well anytime soon or I have to jump over to Waze, which I would rather not...

Could the TomTom team provide us any new update regarding this topic?

Nevermind, apparently that user jailbreaked his phone.
So it's clear to see that Apple doesn't wan't to support any third party navigation systems as of right now 😞
When TomTom don't integrate the CarPlay Functionality, I think that in the future nobody will buy their TomTom GO App.

Since I have an Navigation I used ONLY TomTom Navigation solutions, but now I have an CarPlay Car and since I have this car, I only used the Apple Maps Navigation, because TomTom is not working on CarPlay - and I have to say: "It works VERY fine"!

If TomTom don't work in a few time on my CarPlay, I`ll delete the App...
Does anyone know if I can use the TomTom Go Mobile app with Apple Car Play?

I downloaded the app and plugged my iPhone into the car's USB socket to get Apple Car Play on the car's screen but I can't see the TomTom app at all, only the app for Apple Maps.
I can only concur - I will cancel my subscription unless I can use TomTom on Carplay- nothing more to be said.
TomTom please do what you need
TomTom this is getting very close to last call. If we can`t use the TomTom Go App on our in-dash screen via CarPlay your App will die. It is no good having the best navigation (and you do by far) if we can`t really use it in our cars.

I hate using Apple Maps in my car, knowing I have the far better TomTom Go on my phone ???
