Can anyone tell me if the TOMTOM gps app is any good for an  ipod touch 32gb. I have looked at the iTunes store apps and the forum there advised to download it from TomTom. How long (approx) does it take to download? I am in Australia does  it have Australian maps?  Is there spoken  turn by turn directions so I can hear them through a motorbike helmet via bluetooth?

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hiya, yes, you can use TomTom on the iPod Touch, but in order for it to work, you need to use the TomTom cradle for the iPod Touch (or another cradle that provides the iPod Touch with GPS data). The iPod Touch does *not* have a built-in GPS chip, and the advertised Maps-based service will approximate your position based on WiFi networks and other location data.

The App Store does have TomTom Australia (you have to buy a separate app for each country/region, because of the way the app is packaged), yes. TomTom Australia is around 250MB in size, so download time all depends on your Internet connection. Spoken directions are supported, yes, and as far as I know, you can pair with the iPod Touch cradle.

As far as motorcycle access goes... I don't know where you could mount a cradle (and frankly, I wouldn't mount my iPod Touch like that but rather find an alternative solution that protects the Touch). You'll need 12V/5V power to provide power to the cradle too...

Thanks for your input. It has given me something more to think about. My original TomTom rider, which was a second hand one eventually died and I have an iPod Touch and had seen on TomTom website that the application could be  installed into the iPod. I now just have to decide which way to go.

    Thanks,
