Just had the latest update for the original, and still the best, TomTom Europe and you are going to end of life in September??

"Rapid changes in TomTom and Apple Technologies mean that we cannot continue offering updates to this app. For this reason we will not be supporting this app from September onwards"

There is no way I will use the new app. Too laggy, no iPad support, no custom POI's and a stupid interface. Goodbye TomTom, it used to be great. I'll stick with Waze now its just as good.

TRULY A SHAME SHAME THAT AN UNTIL NOW WELL RESPECTED COMPANY LIKE TOM TOM IS TREATING ITS CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS, RECHARING PEOPLE AFTER FIRST SELLING THEM A LIFETIME PRODUCT. WOULD LOVE TO FIND A PLATFORM WHERE WE CAN UNITE AND SUE THEM FOR THE COST OF A LIFETIME TOMTOM PACKAGE THEY CARRY. THIS IS MY LAST TOM TOM PRODUCT I EVER BUY UNLESS THEY CHANGE THEIR POLICY AND AT LEAST SERVE THE EXISTING COSTOMERS IN LINE WITH WHAT THEY SOLD. CAN IMAGINE THEM CHANGING A PRODUCTLINE AND STOP SELLING IT, BUT FOR EXISTING CLIENTS THEY SIMPLY HAVE TO SUPPORT AND HONOR THAT WHAT THEY SOLD, A LIFETIME TOMTOM NAVIGATION PRODUCT. SOMEBODY KNOWS A PLATFORM WHERE THEY ALREADY WORK WITH A LAWSUIT?

Can I just add to the groundswell of disappointment with TomTom Go. It is just an appalling downturn in lots of ways. I used the old app on my iPad and will not upsize an iPhone screen for Go. It's as if TomTom are committing hari kiri. Shame, it's having the same effect as a Ratner speech. Please get a grip and upgrade the old one - I would actually pay for it again.

It seems that paying customers opinions are no longer important to them.
I imagine they have adopted a Nokia type outlook!

It's been months now and no attempt by Tomtom to reach out to the iPhone users. By now they must realise that Tomtom go is a far inferior product and disliked by the community.

They will lose customers which is a shame as many would be happy to pay annually for the software, if they can't they will go to a competitor.

Why is it that even the free sat nav software is better than go ?

Tomtom has changed from an innovative "tech startup" to a bloated mainstream global brand. The transition has introduced complacency and a change in attitude from eager to provide what customers want, to telling customers what they want.
The inevitable decline will probably be more spectacular and quicker than the ascension.

This was meant to be a lifetime product, completely unacceptable. TOMTOM and Apple both made profit from this joint venture and now point the finger at each other. I demand a refund. The alternative is not fit for purpose as document by users on this forum. Please keep me informed on any claims procedure.

@Adytzu: Different people have different needs and preferences. Since the new TT iOS app is free of charge each month for 75 km, you can always check it out, you might like it.

I have tried the 'go' and didn't like it at all, but I couldn't be bothered to write all the issues out again as they've all pretty much been documented before. Plus 75km a month doesn't suit my needs at all

My post wasn't directed to you at all. It is addressed to the previous poster.

If you have/had the old app, you are entited for 3 years of unlimited navigation on the GO app.

Also it does the trick from A to B, which is most average users' normal use/need.

They didn't exactly promise lifetime lifetime, the definition of it was clear in the T&Cs.

Hi Zsolt! I already tried and i'm not satisfied. Anyway, 75miles isn't too much to be able to have an opinion. But, compared with old standalone version, TT Go it's a downgrade starting with graphics and finish with options. Very hard to use and missing a lot of features.

Interested in what T&Cs you are referring to Zsolt - I was a cautious purchaser and also thought when I purchased the original iPhone app that I was getting lifetime updates for as long as I had the device.... like many other posters, I'm not interested in TomTom Go Mobile - 3 years free or not.... I don't use it often enough to justify an annual subscription after 3 years and when I do use it, 75km isn't enough. Looks like it'll be Google maps from now on and paying for the data it uses....

There is always a clause in the T&Cs, where all the companies state that lifetime is this or that or whatever, whichever comes first. In this case, until they were providing support applies here.

So after today's update, and the notice attached to it, the message seems to be that the app will work with the current iOS but that's it. I would hope that it has been tested with the current betas of iOS 11 and any updates required added to the September release. Can this be confirmed?

    Good afternoon,
I've just downloaded the latest update (v.1.28.1) for my old TT Western Europe app, and evrything is working fine, but I couldn't read the notice attached to it 'cause my wife, accidentally, clicked the "continue" button... and I'm not able to see the message again.
Can someone help me copying and pasting the message here?
Thanks in advance and best regards.

Is any one else as incensed as I am. TomTom "PROMISED!!!" Lifetime updates. They are now saying they cannot update this software. That can however update the TomTom Go app. They are offering a 3 year free trial for the Go version. I bought the app with having the convenience of a one off purchase. I regularly bought into Speed Cameras and Traffic for years. I do not like the new setup for Go and I do not like the idea that I will be charged for using it by the mile effectively when I have paid for a perfectly good app and what I thought was a good "lifetime promise".
I am asking if others who use the iPhone app feel the same way?

@Refitman The older app required additional purchases for the Cameras and Traffic of which you were a regular user, both of which are now included at no extra charge. Also the older app was for just the one included map while the new one allows you to download and use any and all of TomTom's maps for use at home or abroad. Did you run the numbers before deciding that you are now worse off?

@dhn Sorry, I was on a rant! There was a regular update of new roads etc as an update; the last one was 2GB. There will be no more!
@tgold Have you looked at how this "free" camera and traffic is going to be paid for? I was happy to buy this on an annual/monthly basis via the app and thought of it as good value. I hate saying this but, Principles! Do not promise what you are not willing to deliver. Lifetime updates, what does that mean? The new version of Go is also promising lifetime updates. Question, If they are willing to offer me "3 years free" what will my true cost be? How can I do the numbers if they are willing to change the rules to suit them. I bought at a fixed price and was happy with a fixed monthly/annual cost. As I will when I buy a Garmin at £300. Principles simples!

So despite how annoyed I am having paid for 4 individual TomTom apps yet now being forced to use TomTom GO (on a subscription!), I decided to give it a proper test once again as I figured there will be a point where I will have no choice. Here's what happened (note: using iPhone 6S, charging as I drive):

I drove a couple hours down the M1 on a route that I am familiar with, using the GO app. On 3 separate occasions it just crashed without any user input. I drive with the voice off and so would notice that the app had just closed (no, I was not pressing the home button...). Shortly after exiting the motorway there was a closed road and GO kept trying to redirect me back onto it. I started looking for the avoid roadblock action and whatever I did crashed the app again! After re-opening it, it then stopped routing completely (I was logged out this time). It was at this point I was actually lost and getting really frustrated so I aborted my testing with GO.

I ended up opening the original TomTom app, setup routing to go home and even though it wanted to send me back onto the road (as the GO app did) I was able to avoid it with a couple of button presses and I was on my way home again. As well as being more reliable (as in, I don't think it has ever crashed on me in the last year) the UI/UX is so much better on this application.

Genuine question for Mikko: Do you know anyone who actually makes the decisions at TomTom? They need to be informed that this new application is so far off the quality/reliability that we are used too.

Also, another question: What happens if I am offline? For example, I purchased the Cyprus app and used it all over the island without a sim card or data connection. Am I able to do this with the GO app? I feel like the answer is no if the app will crash and log you out sometimes.

    Hi James,

    Thanks for your feedback!

I'm sorry to hear of you bad experience with the GO Mobile app! Such crashes are indeed nasty. Please, make sure you've enabled crash log sending to help our developers catch the cause and fix it in a future update.

I'd also recommend you to start a new topic about your GO Mobile feedback so that others with similar experiences can easier find it and add their voices. It also helps us collect the feedback and report on it.

Rest assured, I'm reading and logging all the feedback here and reporting to the relevant instances to make sure they're aware of the sentiment around this matter. Unfortunately, old technology cannot be supported endlessly but the (for some painful) move has to be made at some point to move on. We're working hard to make the GO Mobile your preferred navigation app and you can see here some of the things in planning and stuff that's already been delivered.

    Cheers, Mikko

Mikko- surely there is enough in the way of feedback here, for somebody at TomTom to realise that there are a lot of current TomTom customers who are about to become competitors customers?

We all seem to be searching for a product that will give us our current functionality and the only companies able and wanting to provide it are competitors.

    Mikko,

Thanks for the reply. While you are logging feedback, it feels like we are not being listened to. GO is still as unreliable as it has always been, yet the "old technology" is still far ahead of it. And I don't think it's very fair that some of us have paid substantial amounts for applications that are now being (IMO) unnecessarily discontinued. If I had known this would happen, I would certainly of never paid for any of the apps in the first place.

I will look into getting crash logs sent over, but at this point I think my time using TomTom has come to an end.
