Navigation is slow in TomTom GO Mobile for iPhone

Hi,

I have TomTom Go Mobile and the legacy TomTom app installed on my iPhone 7. My experience with Go Mobile is that the navigation is about 1 or 2 seconds behind. For instance, when I turn right with my car, the app is showing this turn at least 1 second later. I do not have this experience with the legacy app.

Does anyone else have this experience. Is there a solution for this issue?

Thanks,
Danny

Hi Danny,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for your feedback!

Do you mean the GO Mobile is a second or two slower than the old app or that it's late with the instructions? The apps are based on different software so there might indeed be some differences in the performance. You could check if changing the power saving settings [user manual] helps.

Please, post back here if you have any further questions 😃

Cheers, Mikko
Hi Mikko,

Thanks for your reply. I mean that the screen is a second slower related to reality. The instructions are fine!
So when I trun right in reality I see this turn on the screen about 1 second later. This was way faster in the legacy app!

Power savings are set to None!

Danny

Hi Danny,

Thanks for coming back!

There might be various factors affecting the performance of the app. I'd recommend you to try different power saving settings and also check if you have other apps running that might be causing your phone performance to slow down.

Hi Mikko, as ever your responses here are much appreciated - however this is a problem that a lot of us have bought to your attention both on the forum and through reviews on the App Store. You should know by now that it is a fault with the app, as many have said other navigation apps do not suffer from the lag, and the old Tom Tom did not either. It seems to me to be a problem with the zoom when approaching junctions as the app suddenly speeds up to catch itself up as you hit the junction.

Rather than buying time by asking us to check settings though, I would have thought the developers should be trying to fix this asap?! I get that this issue is affecting some people and not others, and thus is hard to work out what the problem is, but that is presumably what developers are for. We are not meant to be beta testers, we are paying customers!!
Cheers, Pies
Hi Mikko,

I just checked all power saving settings, but changing these did not affect the performance of the app. No other apps are running on my iPhone when I am using TomTom.

Any other ideas?

Thx,
Danny

Hi all,

Thanks for your feedback!

Please note, that this is a user forum geared towards providing users a platform for helping other users. While the forum Staff, such as myself, participate in helping users here when we can, official TomTom support is provided by Customer Service.

The forum Staff does read everything here on the forum and log feedback to be reported to the relevant product teams and elsewhere in the business. However, Customer Service is in many - especially technical - cases more effective with this as they're able to gather the relevant details to help our technicians and product specialists look into the feedback.

@ Danny: Thanks for coming back! Unfortunately, I don't have other suggestions. I've logged your feedback to be reported to the product team. I'd recommend you to contact Customer Service for further assistance.

Cheers, Mikko

I'm curious - did you ever get a satisfactory reply to the lagging issue??

Rather predictably I haven't - it is not encouraging that the problem doesn't seem to be acknowledged. Given how many issues do seem to be known about that haven't been fixed, the lag would seem to be some way off a fix...
I am in contact with customer service. They are investigating the issue!

Good work bothering to contact customer services Dennieku - confess I have not had the patience to do that, slightly under the assumption that putting it on here would suffice (still not completely convinced either way on that). As Feek has just found out, it is pretty extraordinary that we are paying to be beta testers for this product, when the old one had all the right features. It's not like Tomtom don't have experience in making sat navs, so why they need us to tell them to add waypoints and stop the app from lagging is beyond me. Reeks of them not caring....
I just got my last reply from Customer Service (translated from Dutch):
Unfortunately, this is currently a previously identified problem with no solution yet. What you can try is to install a different voice. When this problem for example occurs with a a recorded voice, change it to a computer voice. This may solve the problem.

When this does not solve the problem, unfortunately I have no answer for you. Thank you for your patience and apologize for the inconvenience.

😞
Does anyone know if this issue has been followed up as I’m getting the lag on my iPhone X to Tom go and it’s really annoying. (Even 8months since the original post) bring back the old app!!
No, no solution yet. The problem occurred on my iPhone 7, and now also on my iPhone X.
I noticed that Sygic has the same issue!

TomTom’s outsourced developpers have been contacted by carrier pigeon. It is not yet known if they have received the bug report or if the pigeon died or got distracted. If nobody hears from them in another year or two a 2nd pigeon will be dispatched.
My gps might have caught up with my actual location by then! 😮
Literally just reinstalled this app now it supports iPhone X and the lag is STILL HERE, how can a company like Tom Tom neglected this issue???

The infamous LAG in the Tomtom IOS GO APP is DANGEROUS. I don’t understand why Tomtom refuses to solve this HUGE problem.

Why is TomTom ignoring this problem ?
