Just read the reviews. Some reviews might be old and sorted ever since, some gives 1* because of missing something that used to have on another navigation, some gives 1* because it wasn't compatible with their phone (or other glitch which wasn't necessary the TT app's fault but other issues).

It is not perfect, but does the trick. Comes with free map updates. The traffic service is a separate in-app purchase though.

    That does make sense. ..thanks!

I'm looking to purchase the live services, how accurate and reliable is the HD Traffic service, especially in London?

    Thanks!

TomTom's traffic service is the best so far, but far from perfect. In the past two days they had some service outage also (bur others have it from time-to-time). Other than that, it is a great stuff.

    Thats good to hear.

Lastly, when I purchase the live speed camera service, as well as fixed cameras does it include the other types too, like the specs average speed cameras, mobile cameras etc?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

In driving mode, (driving without a planned route) will it still warn you of speed cameras you are approaching?

    Thanks!

I used a TomTom device that my brother in law lent to me in France last year - it was brilliant, and I would have struggled to find my way without it.   I now also own a Galaxy Note2 and would seriously consider just buying the TomTom software as it was simple and accurate.

My question is just this:  does it compare favourably with the real TomTom (if anyone has ever tried both) please?

    Thanks,

    Pierre

I have TomTom for Android running on a Galaxy Note 2 with 64G of memory. I have used TomTom Navigator 6 before on a windows phone and my wife uses a TomTom via 135. The android application is very poor compared to the other platforms and its as if it is still a development release. There are rumours of a significant upgrade to the Android version at the end of this year so I'll wait and see. Many of the functions and customisation are missing.

    Hi Bointon

Thanks for the frank feedback - that is disappointing to hear, I was really hoping that it would be as good.  Perhaps TomTom should pay attention to Android, it's already overtaken iOS and is only going to get stronger. With so many GPS applications out there already, it would have been good to use a familiar name, but only if it's a quality app.

I'll head back here in a few months and see if anything has changed with the pending releases.

    Cheers,

    Pierre

    Hi Pierre,

I feel u...I know what u mean as I was thinking along the same lines as u a few months ago but after much research on finding an android navigation app for me & my colleagues, I decided to take the plunge & go with tomtom & purchase it's live services too.

All I can say is, although it's not perfect, it is still very good & they are working on improvements all the time & in the meantime it does the job quite well & most of the time brilliantly, especially avoiding traffic for us here in London.

My advice to u would be not to be put off by any imperfections it might have at this time, i've tried many smartphone navigation apps out there & there is not one that doesn't have any imperfections. Also after speaking to a couple of friends connected to tomtom in the netherlands, they have assured me that as the android market is the biggest out there & is growing all the time, tomtom's investment in android will grow too. (this makes financial sense)

My fellow music studio colleagues have all swapped over from using their own various satnavs to tomtom's android app & their travel times & ETA times have improved significantly.

All I can say is, even though I was very critical at first, after several months of using tomtom & it's live services, i'm very pleased with it & would recommend it to anyone!

    Hope this helps,

    Kiri
