My Curfer has been working well for the last few months. Recording all my tracks. I bought it for this very purpose, as it's useful to record my business mileage and personal trips mileage. I was looking forward to the end of the year to be able to simply export this data or copy it from the app.

However, Problem - My father was having installation issues with his own Curfer. To help, I tried logging out of the app on the iPhone and then resetting my own password and logging back in. That seemed to work fine. But then the Curfer wanted me to Activate again. Why? Not sure why I need to activate it, since it was never de-activated. Oh well, tried activating. It failed. Restarted phone, tried again. This time it started downloading software and then copying it to the Curfer. OK.

Eventually it was up and running again. Went to My Tracks. Track Recording was disabled, so turned it on.

"You have not recorded any tracks yet"

I have 6 months of tracks recorded. Where have they all gone? I tried Synchronise Setting. Not sure what that does, since it's not explained in any kind of manual or help pages that I've seen. It Sychronised, but no change. Still not Tracks recorded. Bugger!

So, the question is two-fold. First, where are the tracks stored? Are they in the Curfer itself or inside the App on the iPhone? Are they recoverable in any way, as I'd LOVE to be able to get them back.

Product Suggestion to TomTom - Why is it not possible to EXPORT this data? It would be really handy for people using the device for this purpose. It would also be really useful to upload this data to another device or the web, so that its accessible from my desktop when doing my accounts and mileage records.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Especially from TomTom Support. Thx.

Tracks are held locally on the CURFER smartphone app, they take some data from the dongle but nothing is stored there on server side. When you have logged out of your account and into a new account the app will have deleted them. You will still have your "Summary" data as all of this is held TT server-side but as far as I know, the Tracks data is held locally on the app and will be gone for good.

Hi 69er - that makes sense. However, I didn't log into a "new" account. I simply logged into my old account. Same one I had before. So I would have thought it would simply pick up the data that it had stored?

I presume, because it didn't do that - then the data is lost forever. I really wish TomTom (hello anyone from TomTom) would make that data exportable. The Curfer seems to be a product with so much potential, but nobody seems to want to develop it further. I would have thought Track Logging could be useful to many many people. But needs to be exportable so you can actually use that data - and most importantly not LOSE that data simply because you logged out of the app.

Yep - Totally agree with all of the above.
The "Tracks" data being held locally is broadly a good thing as it means that the data is held on the smartphone only and from a privacy perspective is stays there and is not uploaded to any 3rd party servers.
The downside to that is that when you log out of your account, I guess the app has no idea what to do with it and deletes it.
Agreed, an export function would be really useful and not that hard to develop.

Hi, I have 2 cars, both with an Curfer. I have to log out en log everything I switch my car. The history is available in my iPhone of both cars (depending which account has been logged in)

That's interesting. So it should have worked fine. I wonder what went wrong with my setup.

It is really irritating that Tomtom does not offer the possibility to registrar 2 Curfers... but that is another discussion.

And suggestion... in Germany there is a website, a sort of Facebook for your car, motory.de, that can connect with your Curfer. Then you can back up your history over there.

Curfer seems to be a backroom product. I can imagine a team of 1 person working in a back office on it and everyone in the main office laughing at them. It sure doesn't seem like a product that is being developed and yet it has so much potential.

Exporting of Tracks - an obvious thing missing
Two Cars - another obvious thing missing

I really wish there was a proper way of contacting TomTom and helping them improve their product. Having a forum which is barely used and most certainly not used by the majority of users seems so backward in todays fast moving world. I have software photography products where the Facebook group is continuously monitored and they respond to problems within hours - even though they are in the USA. TomTom could do with a similar set-up imho.
