We are happy to announce the release of the open public Beta version of the TomTom Bandit Studio desktop editing suite.

What is the TomTom Bandit Studio?

The TomTom Bandit Studio is a lightweight and free desktop editing suite for your TomTom Bandit.
It allows you to manage your videos and “Create a Story” using the highlights from your recordings - including overlays and music (mp3 only).
It’s also possible to update the Bandit Action Camera directly in the TomTom Bandit Studio.

Why is TomTom releasing the TomTom Bandit Studio as a Public Beta?

We want to make sure our users get the best experience when using the final version of the TomTom Bandit Studio, with your help we can make this possible.

Who should join the Beta?

Anyone who is interested in having early access to the TomTom Bandit Studio and is happy to provide feedback on their experiences.

How do I join the Beta?

You just need to download the beta version of the TomTom Bandit Studio for either Windows or Mac from tomtom.com/cam

How can I provide feedback?

Simply create a post or comment on existing posts here in this board.

What kind of Feedback would TomTom like?

We want everything! Any issues you have seen, any bugs you experience, the improvements you wish to see. We will also listen to any feature requests that you may have.
A small team of TomTom Employees will respond to the posts to either help you with any questions you have and also to log all feedback for use in improving the TomTom Bandit Studio.

Our aim is to provide a video editing desktop suite that is both easy to use and intuitive.     It would be great if in the Bandit Studio version be able to create manual highlights. this feature is already in the mobile app.
    Also for boths mobile and studio to be able to save the stories in order to be able to edit later if a new story has been created. I got an application crash and the work that i did in the mobile app was gone in the ipad.
    But overall a simple to use applications. :-)

    Hi Daniel T, it's already possible to create manual highlights in the Studio, when you play back your videos clicking on the star icon in the top right corner will add a manual highlight.

    If you close the studio it should auto save the current MyStory so you can carry on working on your edit at a later time.

    Thanks for the quick reply. I have probably missed the highlights in the Studio.
    The saving that i had in mine is if we have multiple stories that we want to work in parallel. for instance we have story A, then we want to do something different in story B (or a longer video) for later come back to story A.

    Hello,

    the TomTom bandit Studio is not friendly with any other formats than highlights from TomTom Bandit him self. So if you want to make smooth video with music and great ending, you must film it... Which is not possible always, when you film some sports. So if you can add additional clips or pictures support it will be great.

    Also you can't select video quality which you want to use in your video. Because when you create 3min clip~ which size is about 700mb is not very cool. :)

    Also when you select highlight after reviewing video, you must search it in whole list and you can't sort it. So it will be good if there will be sorting feature in highlight page.

    Also you can add sorting and in my story page, because sometimes you add videos and they are mixed up, and you want create story in chronological order.

    Hi...now that I am beginning to use the Bandit a bit more (now that the audio issues are much better), I've obviously started using Studio.

    For me, all the existing suggestions are spot on, but I have a few more...

    1. abilty to add a text overlay at any point...help to add detail to what you are actually watching e.g location
    2. ability to add an intro and and credits at the endt...I know you can add a Bandit credit clip, but would be great if you could have your own customised one e.g company name, or facebook page, youtube channel etc.
    3. PIP
    4. Picture tuning...the ability to fix/enhance the video e.g contrast, white balance, chromatic aberation (which is something that i experience quite a bit).

    Just got my new Bandit and really happy with all the stuff i have seen.
    I would like to know if it is possible to accelerate the videos (or important moments) while creating my stories, in the app or even in the Studio Beta, just to make video a bit shorter.

    Hi mjarno, the length of the clips can be reduced (as well as increased) by dragging and dropping the markers at the beginning or end of each clip. If you mean that you want to speed up the footage, then this will not be possible.

    The intention of the Bandit Studio is a lightweight editing suite that's simple to use and can quickly make videos using the highlights recorded on your adventures. For more editing options we recommended importing your Bandit videos into a more advanced video editing suite.

    Hi, So far very happy with the bandit and the windows application. One feature which, I think, would be interesting to incorporate is a "remove battery stick" button in the App. Now, when disconnecting the stick without properly removing the stick from windows (function in windows explorer) the camera wants to repair the SD-card after switching it on.

    The App should offer this option in order to avoid possible SD-card errors.

    I'm fine with using iMovie to manage longer videos, but I definitely would like to apply the overlays to my videos first.
    Please add an option to import entire clips to the editor instead "only" highlights.

    I use the IPhone App and BanditStudio. What's really great that the Highlights are saved with the Video so if I Highlighted something with the IPhone App the BanditStudio will also have it as a Highlight if I import the Movie in the BanditStudio.
    But I also would like to have some improvements at the BanditStudio Software:
    1.) Would be great to save a Story so I can always load it again if I want to change something at a story. I use the camera for skydiving and each jump is a story. If I find out later that something has to be changed at a jump video I have to manually create the story again.
    2.) If I create a story from Highlights then the Highlights are not always in the right order. If I have for example 4 videos and each video has 1 Highlight then everything is in order and the story is easy just click on the Highlights in the order they are shown 1,2,3,4. If I did for example 4 Videos (Video 1 is first video and video 4 the last vide of the jump) and each video has 3 Highlights then the order of the Highlight are Video 4 Highlight 1-3, Video 3 Highlight 1-3, Video 2 Highlight 1-3, Video 1 Highlight 1-3. Which means I have 12 Highlights and have to click on Highlightnumber 3,2,1,6,5,4,9,8,7,12,11,10 to get the right order which is very annoying. Please change the order of the Highlights so I can just click on the Highlights in order 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 or 12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 . It is espacially annoying because I can't save Stories I have to do it all over again if I already made a new story and something is wrong with a old one.
    3.) Why do I have to Import Videos to the Studio. I use a external harddrive to store all the videos also in settings of the BanditStudio the storage path is set to the external harddrive to have multiple Laptops in use. Even the videos which are already in the Storage-Folder of the BanditStudio I have to import again and the BanditStudio is creating a new folder with the date of the import. Couldn't the BanditStudio just check for all the videos which are in the folder and recognize them instead of importing and copying them again (something like a scan button additional to the import button). Also if there is something wrong with the connection of the external harddrive it happened that the BanditStudio did not recognize the videos any more which I already imported befort and I had to import them again.
    4.) To create Highlights which have a length of for example a few minutes in a longer video is at the moment
    5.) Would be nice to have a overlay showing the vertical speed (falling speed) instead of only the horizontal speed :-).
    6.) The overlay "King of the Hill" which shows your altitude is also very nice. But could please add an altitude offset in settings of the BanditStudio which will be subtracted from the altitude in the video when the BanditStudio creates the video. With this offset it would be possible to show the altitude of the airplane over ground and when landing on ground it will show altitude Zero in the video. At the moment it shows for example altitude 220m at landing on ground.
    5.) Would be great to have to possibility to add fotos and text to a story.

    I hope you can do some of the above meantioned improvements, so far you did a great job with the app and the software :-).

    Hi, new user on Bandit. I got he remote to use while driving so that I can use my phone for GPS NAV. However, very dissappointed that the remote doe not have a feature to take pictures at same time while recording. This should have been a standard feature as with all good action cameras with remote.

    Also, the interface is such that you have to have access to main device to change mode from camera to photo, this should be done be remote to switch from camera to video mode etc?

    I opted Bandit over XE, but not enamored yet. Also the the camera completely rotates on its hinge whist driving, which is annoying.

    HI, just found that from Bandit Studio, I am not able to upload to youtube directly, so the saved file does not have overlays. Defeats the whole purpose of overlays???

    Hi birubhai, you can't take pictures when the Bandit is in other modes, however in the Bandit App it's possible to take an image from an already recorded video. When you finish your video it's stored locally on your computer, you can then upload it to YouTube or any other platform you wish to use.

    Having to drag a 6 second highlight to 20 minutes is a real headache! :@

    Re saving My Story: Yes it does auto-save the current MyStory when you close the software, but once you start a new story you can't recover an earlier one. Hence, you can't work on more than one story at a time, or go back to an old story to update (or complete) it. I'm surprised more people haven't complained about this.

    In fact the bandit studio I can not add any mp3.
    Click Music to open the folder, but it is empty, even though it mp3 files are.
    Can anyone advise? Thank you

    What you need to do is use that folder icon (where your red arrow is pointing) to select the folder that contains the music. Don't worry that you can't see its contents. The name of the folder you select should then appear on your Studio screen - next to the music notes. Below that folder will appear a list of any sub-folders and mp3s that sit in your chosen folder. You then make your selection from the Studio screen.

    Another point to remember is that only mp3s are recognised. If your music is in another format, like wma, it won't appear.

    I'm going to try downloading this on my laptop instead then seeing as my app isn't working and it keeps crashing. Only thing is once I've edited videos on my laptop how do I then get them onto my iPhone? Thanks
