Go 6200 with Wi-Fi - Mobile Speed Cameras not indicated on any routes, anytime!

I have had this great unit for almost 3 months now, and while I have found it generally very good, it has always seemed strange that whenever I have passed a mobile speed camera, it has
a) never warned me of ANY possible mobile speed camera hot spots at any time on my route, and
b) never once indicated a possible or actual mobile speed camera on my route - even though I sometimes pass some!

I thought I may have a faulty unit, so a couple of weeks after I purchased the Go Wi-Fi 6200 navigator, I contacted Support. They eventually came back a day or so later, and listed various restarts, resets and install updates I should follow. I did all that and waited for it to announce ANY hot spots or mobile speed camera locations. Eventually, I again passed some more on my routes and again, nothing was ever indicated. I must state that it always indicated FIXED speed camera with warnings, etc.

So I got in touch with Support again, and again was referred to the restarts, factory resets, re-install, etc. which again I did. Within 24 hours I actually passed 3 mobile speed cameras, and not one was ever indicated as possible or actual on the unit!

I contacted Support again, and they confirmed I was connected to their servers.....but I will only get indications of mobile speed camera locations "if a member of the general public" report the actual mobile speed camera location! 😠

I have never seen nor cannot find this stipulation either on the website, nor in the manual. PLUS, it states mobile speed camera hot-spots, which of course can be downloaded from the Police every week.....but these are never indicated either! I can appreciated the fact that actual cameras do get moved, but the possible locations are available in advance and should be included. Plus as stated, they never indicate this clearly or logically on the website or manual.

But I am not happy with the above, if indeed it is true, as it is is false advertising of a product.....

Anybody else come across this issue?

Hi dpenney,

Welcome to the Community!

We do actually have many mobile camera hotspots in our database. Unlike some of our competitors we prefer to avoid false positive warnings which can give the impression that our database is lacking. For more about this, please see here.

As the mobile camera warnings are off by default, I'd recommend you first to double check that you have them turned on [user manual].

If you're still missing alerts, please post the locations here so I can double check with the Speed Cameras team that we have those locations in our database.

Cheers, Mikko
Hi Mikko,

On my routes, yesterday one was on Mitchell Freeway. West Perth.
Today one was at Herdsman Parade, Wembley.
Tomorrow they are scheduled for the following areas on my routes:
Weaponess Road, Scarborough
Karrinyup Road, Gwelup
Scarborough Beach Road, Mount Hawthorn

Thursday, they are scheduled on my routes at:
Cedric Street, Stirling
Canning Highway, Como
Kensington Primary, Kensington

My speed camera warnings are activated and indeed on....

And apart from a couple of fixed Red light/speed cameras on my routes that I have received warnings for (so I know at least those work) I have never ever warned me about ANY mobile speed cameras or hot spots.

Hi dpenney,

Thanks for coming back about this!

I'm afraid we need more detailed location information to be able to check this. I'd recommend you to report any missing cameras using with your device [user manual]. This way our Speed Cameras team will get the locations and can add them to the database.

Cheers, Mikko

P.S. I moved this topic to the Speed Cameras board as this is not a device specific matter.
Its a great device but this item drives me mad. I always report a sped camera which is usually a mobile camera, but they never appear on my device. These mobile cameras are the important ones, the ones that appear occasionally and usually when you don't want them to.
I have a couple on my route that are shown, however, at those locations I have never seen a mobile camera.
To me there seems to be little point in reporting them as nothing is ever done.
By the way, 3 points on the way for me as I got caught by a mobile camera I had previously reported, GREAT!!!!

Hi
@Houseofclare

As far as I'm aware If you reported the Mobile Camera on the Device the report will remain active for around 2 hours, unless someone else reports the Camera as still being there or gone

I think Tomtoms aim is to stop users being annoyed with false positives, so they try to make the Speed cam database 'Smart' but it relies on users reporting the live cameras locations ( I always report Live Speed Cams)

Many users never venture in the Setting menus, I find it strange that the Mobile Camera Hot spots are turned OFF in the Setting menu by default

Have checked my settings and they are all set to always and on where necessary. When reporting a speed camera it never asks for a type of camera reported!
It doesn`t work like this! 3 people have to report a mobile camera at the same place, otherwise it never appears on any device.
UK user of Go 6200 WiFi.

Have for some time, possibly since bought nine months ago not had any speed cameras of any type showing. After a call to support a few weeks ago and a false start when informed by TT that there was a fix, suddenly after a speed camera update I can see cameras and get a warning sound.

I had set the 6200 to what I thought was both sounds and "Read Aloud" but the software update (not just camera update) seems to have reset things to the default.

In looking to get "Read Aloud" AND sounds I looked at the settings suggested by YamFazMan as follows...

Always use a Computer voice...
Also.... From the main screen... Tap (.... Menu) -> Setting -> Sounds & Warnings...
AA. Set... 'Warning Type' to... Read Allowed...
(Important... Needs a Computer Voice set in the Voices menu)
Speed Cameras & Hazards... Set to ON
The next 10 Setting ALL set to Always
BB. The next 4 Settings ALL set to ON
The device will now say....
'Fixed Camera'
'Mobile Hot Spot'
'Red Light Camera'
CC. 'Spoken Traffic delays' (Mine says "Read Aloud Traffic Warnings" )

I'm assuming that with the settings in bold above I get spoken (Read Aloud) but NOT sounds as well for speed cameras?

I had been hoping that setting AA to "Sounds" that having CC set as "Spoken" I could get both. I guess not but a suggestion to TT to have both if possible.

Reason I say this is recently, with strong sun low in the sky, on a difficult route I had never driven before with a lot of traffic it was impossible to watch my speed (or even see the speedo) and navigate, especially as it was a built up area with lots of 20 mph zones some 30 mph and some 40. A double whammy would have been really useful during this journey.

Note that the speed limit shown on the 6200 is often wrong especially when the limit changes to 20 mph around schools.

I have had exactly the same experience with my GO 6200. There are a couple of mobile hotspots that get mentioned, but it has NEVER warned me of any actual mobile speed traps. I've given up on it for speed camera alerts for that reason as it's not fit for purpose and instead, I've purchased one of these little devices, which works great (it's not a detector as such, but it warns you about all places where speed cameras, mobile or otherwise, have been seen).

Hi
@BrianE

Today A449 to Worcester I received Warning Chime + Spoken warning for all of the Fixed Cameras and Mobile Hot Spots on my journey
I didn't see the Camera van on the outward or return journey

The Tomtom Mobile camera database has always been that way
I have also seen and not been warned about the Mobile Camera Vans, but I always report one if I see it, so I guess the the Tomtom users for the next couple of hours received a warning
i.e... Last week on Woodbury Lane Worcester I spotted a Police Motorcycle speed check/trap... I received no warning
I tapped the 'Report a Speed Cam' button... On the return journey I received a warning

I prefer camera the 3rd party Speed camera database that I use on my NAV3 devices, I don't mind the false positives, but it can get a little irritating along the A449 with the sheer amount of false positives
The Tomtom 'Smart' Speed Camera database is so that people aren't annoyed by false positive Speed Cam warning
I wish Tomtom would offer the best of both worlds
A choice between their 'Smart' system that relies on other users reporting the Cameras
Or an option to Warn about the location of each Camera whether its a live Camera location or a false positive
