Hi all,

Last Friday we released a new v.1.3.255 software update for the Adventurer, Spark, Runner 2, Spark 3 and Runner 3 watches and it's available for download in MySports Connect.

What's new?

- This update brings full compatibility with with Powerbeats3 headphones.

Note: The headphones will give a double chime and take 12 seconds to connect. This is slower than other headsets but once connected functionality is fine.

Happy sporting! :D

Cheers, Mikko

What about full compatibility with the Jabra Pulse??? (I have to choose between the HR or the earphones connexion...)

FYI: those earphones have an HR sensor
FYI: They are among the most recommended running earphones

You are probably best off using the headphones for music, not for HR, as the watch may not be able to differentiate between the mixed data stream it is receiving, it either accepts the music or the HR. As to whether they will program for this, the BT standard is in such a way a 'standard' that it can be widely interpreted with different settings for buffer sizes, time outs, profiles, protocols, antenna configurations, etc.. TomTom cannot change their code every time a headphone manufacturers changes the BT coding. There are thousands of models out there so there is no way for TT to test them all and since the manufacturers often tweak the BT settings in the headphones there is no way to know upfront if a pair will work or not. and to redo the code for every pair is unrealistic, particularity as fixing it for on may make it fail for another. They do monitor the forums and note these sort of requests, but TomTom will not comment on planned or future updates publicly (here or elsewhere) so we will just have to wait and see.

oh no I understand that TT can't test them all but my point is they push an update that only concern Powerbeats earphone user so I thought we could all ask for a personal update (guess one of TT team member got a pair of Powerbeats3). Also, the issue doesn't come from particular BT standards but more from the ability for the watch to dissociate channels instead of device's name, cause the HR monitor when connected works perfectly same for the headphone function it's just I can't use both functions at the same time. Bottom lines I'm aware TT can't test all HR monitor or headphone but I'm a bit frustrated when they publish an update targeting one particular headphone, with the same popularity and price range as mine.
Think about it, on paper, the Jabra Pulse combine with the TT spark music sounds like a perfect combo: No phones or MP3 player to carry and no uncomfortable chest HR monitor...
    well theoretically...

On paper, the Spark already has a built in HR monitor so there is no need for the Jabra HR stream. The built in HR is the major selling point of the watch so they may not be rushing to make it work with a competing device. The Powerbeats issue was due to the number of users using both devices as there was a large overlap and it was a much simpler issue to resolve. I am not sure that is the case with the Jabra, as most users use the watch from HR so they have no need to for headphones that do the same thing. TomTom will not comment on planned or future updates publicly (here or elsewhere) so we will just have to wait and see.

I hope this helps, please let me know if this answered your question. If it did, please mark it as a solution so others can look for it if they have the same question.

I have the spark music only, so no HR integrated. and it's on purpose:
    1. optical HR sensors can be widely inaccurate (hairs, sweat, skin tone, position on the wrist,...)
    2. You have to wear your watch tight and it's not always comfortable, for me at least
    3. if you wear winter clothing like a base layer either you have no heart rate tracking or no information during your run or ride (cause I can't see trough my clothes)
    4. if you ride a bike ---> bike mount ---> no HR tracking again, if you don't have a bike mount then the watch isn't really convenient to use during a ride since you're holding the handlebar.
    5. Battery draining.

The Jabra pulse is not a competing device, it's a complementary one, like the Powerbeats earphones.
I know TT will not comment they never do...

The issue may be that the pulse earphones don't adhere properly to the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) HR sensor profile whilst music is streaming. Did Jabra themselves investigate this issue for you?
I work for TomTom but the views expressed here are my own.

I'll bring the issue to them see what they say. But I doubt it's the problem cause just for a test I used Strava app and the Pulse are connected properly as a Bluetooth Smart HR device and I can listen to music meanwhile being connected to the watch or the phone (or both cause those earphones can be connected to 2 devices at the same time)

Again this is an issue for TomTom not Jabra.

Jabra only cares about their headphones working with iPhone and Android platforms since that covers 90% of their market. As one of the players in the 10% market it is in TomTom's court to play ball with Jabra or not. The idea of putting the onus on Jabra is just silly....they don't care about TomTom.

I actually had a pair of Jabra pulse, and the pairing process was quite difficult indeed with some devices...

what I had to do often was to connect headphone first to my phone, then making sure the HR was NOT connected (disconnect jabra BT smart from the list of devices in the phone). This is how I connected my Jabra Pulse to a Multisport HR and Polar V800, so I think it should work...
but for some reason doing that with my polar watch only worked after many, many, many tries the first time (probably spent 30mn trying), so be persistant... it eventually worked almost instantaneously after that first time

I guess you could also try the contrary: connect the HR monitor to your phone and only have the headphone connection visible for the Spark...

I think that once your watch has connected with each component of the Jabra pulse independently, it should be able to recognise them when the 2 signals are available at the same time. good luck with that, and do not hesitate to contact Jabra regarding this: they might have more tips for you !

hmmmm... doesn't sound too good indeed (plus it seems another user on the forum has the same issue since updating to latest fw...)

did you check you have the latest firmware installed on the Jabras ? (should be 3.14)
did you try a reset on the watch (you never know, maybe starting from a clean slate could help...) ?
you tried putting the Jabras in pairing mode, connect the music first, then start an activity mode in order to pair the HRM ?

apart from that, no clue, sorry...

Hi, is there a way to update the software without downloading Mysports and connecting to a PC.
I only have a work laptop which does not allow this software to be downloaded. I need the new software as I have problems with the sensors.
Or is there a service centre which can update the software for me?

    Thanks

A Windows or Mac PC is required to use the watch (it is written on the packaging) so there will be no way to get updates, reset the watch or load music onto it without access to a PC. The software needed to update is very small, can you install it on the work computer, do the update and then uninstall it? Or do you have a friend or relative who's machine you can borrow? There is no service center that can do it for you.

Is there a solution for the following?
Or can we wait for some new software version?

I updated to this version, but my Runner 3 can hardly connect to my Samsung S4 5.01.
I did all the advices to unpair them and reinstalled apk on my phone but this shameful situation
I have for 3 weeks when I bought the watch did not improve.
I have several failure mode when connection to the handy:
    -apk cannot see the watch
    -pin code comes too slow
    -pairing process closes while pairing
-Android sync process stops at some %

I spent so much time playing whether to sync but only a small success. Perhaps 1/20 times the sync could completed via phone.
But this apk eats the battery of the phone
I showed sometimes the Wifi on my phone reconnects to my home networks when using this apk. It is strange. Normal way I can hang on the wifi for hours with other apks
I tried it at different houses, other networks. The result was:two times yes...10 times failure at different stages
I made a try with my wife's Huawei Y6pro 5.11. First time that phone could sync the watch but not more!

Connection via use on the PC works fine. watch battery and phone battery are charged. They are close to each other

    One request.

Please add the ability to have the conjugation of two training modes. For example, set the training intervals but also the ability to set an heart rate interval so we get notified if we are above or below our heart rate zone.

    AND CUSTOM WATCH FACES :)

I still have upload issues via Samsung S4. Very rarely can it upload an hour long activity.
Mainly can start and upload 4-5% and disconnect....then try again.
I played 2 hour with it yesterday vitout success :((((
Finally I can upload my daily tracking and activities via my PC.
It is a big shame. I thought it would be a better watch.
ON the other hand, my colleague also has one, he can upload a complete day ski tracking, too. Witout Restart via Android.
Should I ask the shop to replace my watch?
Earlier Tomtom Support wrote me, it is an issue with the TomTom Mysport app, so please install Tomtom Sports.
I did it and started to work..but only on the first day.
Now I lost my patient, since I managed to empty the phone's battery while strugling with the upload.

    Hi.

Have a question about the refresh rate of the current pace.

I'm seeing the pace in the watch and it is showing the current pace. I'm running, for example at 5.10m/km but then I burst and in less than 5 seconds I'm running at less than 4m/km (usually ~3.35m/km). The problem is that the watch takes too long to show me my correct speed. I now that I'm running below 4m/km but it still shows me 4.45m for example. It eventually catches up.

Also, what's the refresh rate of the average pace?

    Thanks

That means that until the end of 2017 we can only expect updates of the type "allows to connect headphones x ..." or "add language j ...". No improvement of pace, autopause, notifications, display times per kilometer on the watch, .... A little disappointed

I do not think Mach works for TT and has no inside information, they are just making stuff up (Mach - please correct me if I am wrong). That being said, there is generally a gap between updates at at some point they stop updating older models, so the Spark may be seeing the end of updates as it is nearing 2 years old. TomTom will not comment on planned or future updates publicly (here or elsewhere) so we will just have to wait and see.

@tfarabaug. It's a line you write quite often, about tomtom not commenting about future updates, I think you've missed some. Not so long ago Jürgen wrote:

"Version 5 of the mobile app will have an improved update mechanism for QuickGPSfix. It was too late to get it into version 5."

I think the last 5 should have been 4, but nonetheless it is a peak into future updates.

If you mean TomTom should be more open about future updates, I agree with you.
