Hi all,

We've just released a new software v16.601 for Rider 4x0/40 and it's available for download in MyDrive Connect.

What's new?

Read Traffic Messages Aloud

Enabling Settings > Sounds & Warnings > Read aloud traffic warnings will make the device announce all traffic incidents on the users route

Other bug fixes and improvements

  • Traffic and Speed Camera as subscription are now shown on the About Screen
  • This update includes core for the POI improvements* due in the next release, stay tuned.
  • Security improvements
  • Various performance improvements and bug fixes have been implemented.

*Note: Our initial plan was to release the display of Community POIs on the map feature as the main improvement of this software update. As some of the aspects of this improvement are not meeting our expectations of how we want to offer these features to you, we unfortunately had to postpone this improvement until a future software release. We always want to make sure that our improvements are matching your wishes as much as possible and want to make sure your first experience with these new features are as good as we can offer.

Drive safe! :D

Cheers, Mikko

The hoarse voice problem is still here...

Nothing more that what described in the announcement.

I must say that it feels snappier (the performance improvements mentioned above).

And about the "Read aloud traffic warnings" feature: I thing the announcement must be done sooner, not at the last moment.

And the second time the updated finished correctly.

The user interface seems to work a bit snappier than before, especially moving around on the maps etc. Selecting the right maximum speed now seems to work correctly as well.

I noticed one annoying thing that the speaker pops (clipping in correct audio terms) when you tap the screen quickly and touch feedback sounds are enabled.

I will test tomorrow and provide feedback about experience with headset on the motorcycle. Fingers crossed.

@MikkoK, when is the next update planned (the one with the external party involved for the bluetooth fixes )

    Hi all,

Thanks for your feedback regarding the latest release!

This release included some improvements to some areas discussed here on the forum as well and I've already updated some of the topics. There were e.g. some improvements to Bluetooth® connectivity, but unfortunately this is not likely to bring improvement to the "hoarse voice" issue.

We'd like to hear your feedback regarding any issue you've experienced with previous software versions and whether you experience a change with the latest one.

    Cheers, Mikko

Just did 60km with the voice instructions enabled (I had them disabled for quite a while due to known reasons), this feels a lot like what the device have should been at version 1.0. Probably there still are bugs, but it's a step in the right direction.

    Hi BelgiumRider400,

According to our logs you're still on v16.201. I'd recommend reset your device once more, as Blieje suggested, and try updating it again.

Failing this, please follow Blieje's factory reset link. It is in fact for the recovery mode. Please note, that this will delete your personal information, e.g. My Places and destination prediction data and trip statistics. You can save and restore My Places with MyDrive.

    Cheers, Mikko

    Hi Thomas,

Although there were some Bluetooth® connectivity improvements made in this release, the "hoarse voice" issue indeed unfortunately couldn't be addressed at this point.

However, reading basix's comment above it seems to the above-mentioned improvements might for some improve the situation regarding the voice issue as well. Please, post your observations on the latest release on one of the topics discussing this issue so that I can update the ticket about it.

    Cheers, Mikko

    Hi Mikko,

I didn't intend to say there were no BT issues left. It still takes forever to load my contacts (waited more than 10 minutes and i turned it off). The "Contactpersonen worden geïmporteerd" message is still present when paired as suggested by tomtom. (Yes I've left the 'phone' menu, and re-entered it already, it still gave that message.) I only have around 700 contacts, but I have 2 office365 exchange servers connected for work. I'm guessing it is syncing every contact in both organisations I'm working for (+-8000 contacts)

I've not paired the phone/intercom/gps as recommended by tomtom, the GPS is paired to my Sena 20S for audio, to my android phone for internet access, and my Phone's media + call audio are paired to the Sena directly. This setup was working ok for a while already.

What I actually meant by my somewhat positive message was that the device now seems more responsive, just as it should have been since day 1 of its release. No frequent hiccups and smooth(er) graphics. The automatic zoom-out to your current location when you add a point to create a 'spannende route', or submit a map correction (like max speed), and other annoyances are still there.

An idea for the development team as many people seem to have the contacts syncing issue: you could create an intermediary app for android (and also for iphone) which is installable optionally, which can act as a proxy for all data requested by the tomtom. This way the tomtom can get access to custom selected groups of contacts instead of ALL of them via the crappy bluetooth provided PBAP , and another nice to have feature: device notifications, control music playback and anything else you would expect from this kind of device. Another feature that had been asked is to use the TTS engine of the Phone instead of the tomtom to fix the hoarse voice issue.

This is achievable by a programmer very quickly and would not cost tomtom much more than 5 days of work including testing. At the same time, you'd make a lot of users happy.

    quick sketch:

GPS and phone have bluetooth internet connectivity

Gps gets an IP address, and has a gateway IP (the phone) to access the internet.

GPS tries to connect to a specific TCP/UDP port on the phone (gateway IP)
--> Fails --> fallback scenario - use PBAP and standard features that are already there
--> works --> communicate with service on phone to provide access to features:
    1) selective contacts sync to tomtom
    2) notifications reader that shows arrived messages on phone etc.
    3) music controls for phone
    4) send TTS command to phone (phone reads out the instructions instead of tomtom)

    Hi basix,

    Thanks for the elaborate feedback!

Your phone contact syncing issue is indeed probably due to the large amount of contacts you have. However, I'll log your feedback to the ticket we have about this.

I already saw some others reporting that they can now report speed limit changes. Are you still not able to do it?

I'll log your requests to be reported to the product team.

    Cheers, Mikko

Hi Mikko, yes I have been able to report speed limit changes. The annoyance now is that it zooms out and centers back to your current position after doing so. Same thing occurs when adding points to a 'thrill' (or whatever it is called in English, as my device is set to Dutch)

I also like the fact that the settings cog wheel is now a BIG icon which can be moved, why was that not mentioned? :)

since you guys have me scared to buy a headset, lol. plus i have $800 custom molded ear monitors, so quality of bluetooth sound would be a concern.
also some way to sort or organize routes, search, folders, something. :)
