My device is:  Tom Tom One (30 series)/125/130.

My TomTom One does two things;  (1) freezes after drums with only TomTom and hands showing or (2) freezes after drums with device ID, etc. info showing.  I've tried updating via computer and TomTom Home, deleted old files and reinstalled files.  At the end of the reinstall, it did the same as above.  TomTom Home then showed an error message.  "Severe server error:  Return Code Header Missing"  Error Code:  -3.  What do I do now?  Help me please!!

If you have a backup, you could remove all files from your TomTom one more time (make sure you also delete the hidden files: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html). Then, connect to TT HOME and let it update your device.

Did this work for anyone?  I have the One/140 model and am backing up my maps - need I back up everything else?

    I'm thinking the steps are:

    1. Back up maps

    2. format x:  (fat32?)

    3. restore maps

    4. update?

    help!

Use Explorer and backup the entire contents of the unit, not just maps. Then do the format and restore.

    Hi

Has anyone who has experienced this problem actually got it fixed?

My Tomtom One V2 Europe freezes on startup screen, and I have tried absolutely everything to fix it:

    Restore backup

    Reset device and restore

Copy contents and erase device and restore flash

    restore device

erase device and restore from manual backup one file at a time

    ...repeat until totally fed up

The problem began with a software update from Home, that failed (perhaps because the memory is now completely full)

Is there anyone able to offer actual advice about fixing this - and don't say 'have you tried resetting and manually backing up...'

    Thanks

    ps I have a Mac

How about half the advice? :smileyhappy: Use Finder to back up the contents of your unit. Now (I didn't see you try this ...) do a DOS format of the unit (I don't think Macs offer a fat32 choice).

Then use Finder for the restore.

I have done soft reset,  i have downloaded most recent TomTom Home.  I have updated ONe XL, I have deleted and reinstalled applkications.  I have backed up in TomTom home, reformatted with windows and restored in TomTom Home...nothing works..after drums Tomtom either freezes or slowly gets to Main Menu 1 screen and then completely freezes.  Should I just throw it away...very frustrating??

Hi! I've just finishing dealing with this on my Go720.
Symptoms - freezes during startup and can not turn off.

Tried resetting by poking a biro tip into the reset hole - but this only turns the unit off. When it tries to restart it still freezes during startup sequence.
So - connected to PC and ran TomTom HOME2. I had backed the unit up only a few month previous, so I tried to do a reinstall. However, it threw an error on this procedure. I then thought that perhaps I could erase the memory contents and reinstall the contents of my backup folder. However, playing safe, I first wanted to do a dump and backup all my files on the units internal memory. Halfway through this I had an error message saying that one file was corrupt and could not be read. The file was clmdata. So ... after more researching the web I read that the file clmdata has been blamed for this freezing problem. I examined my Go720 internal memory and tried to overwrite the corrupt clmdata with the one from my backup set. That failed as the file was corrupt. Next, in windows explorer I then deleted the clmdata file, but all this did was generate a file of 0 bytes with the original name. However, I now tried again to restore the unit with TomTom HOME, and this time it worked. Unit is fine now!

From what I've read, you may not need to use the restore function, but just delete (or try to delete) the clmdata file, and the unit recreates it when it restarts. Best of luck!

Thank you so much for the reply.  I ended up buying a reconditioned TomTom since I finally gave up  trying to fix my old one.  TomTom told me that I would have to send the unit to them for repair and that was too expensive since my warrantee had well expired.  The reconditioned unit came with the new map guarantee so I pretty much broke even with the pricing since I had not paid to update my maps in 3 years.  I think that this may be a potential problem for all TomToms so your solution may come in handy for some one else right now or for me in the future.  Thanks again.

Hi did your problem get resolved?  My Tom Tom one freezes up on start up as well - I would like a simple solution as opposed to never using it.

No,  I gave up and threw it away!!  Probably a mistake (only 3 yrs old but that is probably ancient in tech years).   I purchased a refurbished one(a more current model too)  from Amazon at a great price $55 with current maps, etc. All in all financially it was a great solution as I could not fix it on my own and the warrenty had expired so as I remember Tom Tom was saying it would be @$100 to repair.

I was having a similar problem with my ONE after purchasing and applying the latest maps. I was then having a LOT of corruption and file access errors (couldn't delete or rename troublesome files) that I could not get around. I then completely formatted the ONE, connected it to HOME 2 and loaded it back up. It worked for a bit, and then started doing a lot of reboots, which became more frequent. It got to a point of rebooting before it would find a GPS signal. I then assumed the onboard memory was bad, so I bought a 2 GB SD memory card (NOT SDHC), and started all over again. HOME kept failing to load to a blank SD card. I read that this was an issue, and to copy the files from the ONE to the desktop, and then to the One with the SD memory card inserted. This made it more stable, but still had reboot issues.

To resolve the reboot issues I read that you can uninstall only the application from the SD card and run an update to bring it back. It was actually a couple updates. First the initial ONE Application, and then the update to One v4. I am not sure why the install to a blank SD card didn't work, but an uninstall and reinstall did, but I am now up and running.

I was still having occasional reboot issues, but once it rebooted a couple of times it stablized.

If you want to try unistalling the application before buying a 2 GB SD Card, there is a DIY for it. Basically to connect the ONE to you PC, Manage your One, Remove the applications from your computer (mine was listed about 6 times (ONE x 2 and v4 x 4, not sure why), Remove the application from your One, Allow updates after rebooting.

If present, it should be in the root of the unit, not in a folder.

Mine does this when, and only when, connected to the computer. It really is connected, as I can manage and operate the TomTom from the computer, and when I disconnect I can manage and operate normally. I tried most of the fixes suggested, and at one point the manage facility indicated I had 2 maps, but when I tried to operate the machine it said'no maps found'. Fixed that, but still when I connect to computer and switvh on, I get a flashing blue disk. Weird.

Updated the unit this evening incl. a "critical update required for the proper functioning of the unit" where after the unit has stopped to work but constantly starts up and close down which can not be stopped. If pressing the "ON" button on the attempt of a start up I can retrieve information on the unit from which it is apparent that the start up mode is "reboot" but it is not possible to change anything.

This is the 2nd time i experience problems after an update from TomTom home and it really makes you wonder what tests are being made prior releasing them to the public?

The unit is now completely in-operable and useless! It is REALY REALY ANNOYING especially since it was supposed to be used on a long road trip to France tomorrow.

If TomTom's customer service works like last time it will probably take 4 days to get an answer from someone who request me to write my problem in German!

Adding this to the repeated problem of the unit closing down and starting whilst in use which has been on going for the last 2 years makes you go; Aaaaarrgggghhhh!!!    I'm so FED UP with this and the feeling to have wasted money on a then "TOP OF THE LINE" model.  It's a joke!
