About what device are you talking? The SD-slots should be working now for the newer TomTom models. Which application version do you have installed?

    Hi,

the SD card slot has been enabled on your device as well with the update to 11.030 and 11.031.

There are only some issues remaining on TT's end concerning some of the Start devices. Those still not being able to install the latest maps to SD card are the ones where the serial numbers start with the following characters:

    BL, BN, AP, AS

For those devices the map isn't being offered or the map isn't installable to the SD card due to a problem in TT's back-end. They know about this problem and are working to solve it.

    Regards
    Lars.

Tx Lupus1 for your answer ... but I'm confused !

My Start 25 S/N starts with BL.

I am then able OR not able to use a SD card ?

meaning, if I have a SD card with, for instance, USA maps, can the device read it ?

what does it mean to have the "slot activated with the update to 11.030 and 11.031"  but at the same time "Those still not being able to install the latest maps to SD card are the ones where the serial numbers start .... with BL" ?

    Tx for your help

There are many different Start devices. Some time ago, the SD-slot was enabled but for some Start devices it's not working properly yet. This is the case with your Start. So at this moment, you can't use it. You have to wait for TT until they fix the problem.

Tx Megalos ... this is all very frustrating ! I bought the Start 25 precisely because of the slot ! It seems TT isn't bothering too much with this issue and I feel cheated !!

    Hi,

as far as I know they developed the update to enable the SD slots on all NAV3 devices. However this back-end problem was unforeseen and therefore they're determining ways to solve this problem and to solve it as soon as they know how they could do it. Taken the time it took them to enable the SD slot I fear it might take some more time although problems in the back-end are usually solved faster than problems with the application itself.
I suppose if they'd known about the problem they might have postponed the update release.

    Tx again Lupus1

If I buy the microSD card from TT (USA map v8.70) that is "compatible" with device Start 25, will it work, my device being a BL S/N ? will my device access the maps and use all its functionalities ?

    Hi,

no, that won't work that way. When inserting the card for the first time it'll be formatted so you'll loose all the data stored on it. Also those cards being sold including the maps are quite expensive and are used with older devices.

You're currently stuck with your current map. As soon as the problem with the devices with those serial numbers is solved you'll be able to purchase just any microSDHC card with up to 32GB capacity and use it with your device. Even if you get a map update and it won't fit on your internal memory it'll be installed to the memory card then.

    Regards
    Lars.

Lupus1, Tx once again for clarifying that !!

This is a disgrace ! I bought a brand new device - more expensive because of the card slot !! - that doesn't work even with the cards sold by TT itself in its site, which claims they work with the device  !!!

This device is a POS, I have to say... I can''t backup it, I can't use its card slot, I can't see it as a drive in my PC, I can't update maps because they won't fit its internal memory, it can´t work with HOME but only with MyTomTom which is, to be frank once again, another POS !

Is TT, given its own exclusive fault for bricking the device, going to extend my "Map Update Guarantee" so as to when and if they solve these issues I will be able - ONLY THEN -  to update whatever maps I have in the device ?? Is this fair or what ? Or am I demading here something stupid ?  This is the minimum that TT can do do make amends, in my honest opinion, for otherwise this may even be liable !!! As a customer, I feel cheated, mislead and a dumbjerk for having paid good money for a brick !!!!

Sorry for the rant and outburst, but this is simply too much !

I would be extremely grateful if you could provide a name or a destination for me to write a formal reclamation and protest to TT, for I am not going to take this lying down and choking on it.

    Best regards,

    Luis

    Hi Luis,

Edit: The US and Canada v8.80 SD card does NOT currently work.

    [Removed link]

Also, the map on the SD card is a 8.80 map, it's an error in the description about the 8.70.

    I hope this helps :)

    Hi Ditte

    Tx for your post. But,

    - I am past these doubts and explanations .... fact is, I have a brick in my hands !

With all respect to a "Staff" answer, the fact that you now say it WILL work does not explain or assure me given the fact that my Start 25 serial begins with "BL" .....  that is, stiil with "some issues remaining" as was mentioned by another poster here !

And albeit a brick, my Start 25 still operates with what it brought ..... something that I fear may not keep on happening if I am so bold as to do a Map Update, or buy a expensive SD card from TT itself that can be "formated" and bricked as soon as it is inserted !!

Again, I would be most grateful if I could be provided with either a name of some TT responsible I can write to, or missing that piece of surely Top Secret and Ultra Confidential information being accessible by us Customers mere mortals, the address of the correct TT Department I can write to in utmost protest and therefore demand reparation, namely, an extension of the "Map Update Guarantee" until said time as TT solves the present limitations.

Otherwise, I may have to take this some other direction and with other tools, for - simply put - all this is too much and deserves responsability !

Thanks in advance, Staff Member Ditte.

    Luis

    Hi again Luis,

We're here to help you, please keep that in mind :)

What Lars (Lupus1) refers to is downloadable maps and actually only for a very small group of users that already have a map update service on their account.. I think he may have misunderstood the question about the pre-installed Micro SD cards.

The pre-installed maps on Micro SD cards are designed to use as 'plug and play'. You receive the SD card, insert it into the device and you then have the opportunity to switch map to the new region.

The device will NOT attempt to format these SD cards as they've been installed by TomTom and are therefore already encrypted. It's only 3rd party SD cards the device will format.

If you wish to log a formal complaint then please get in contact with support for your region, they will be able to inform you of your options. :)

    I hope this helps,

    Hi Ditte

I am thinking of buying a new  TT start 25 with EU maps. Is it true that when I buy USA maps on sdcard ( Micro sd)  for Start 25 from TT site will work without any problems?

    Thanks

    Hi Ramesh,

Yes, if you buy a compatible micro SD card with the maps loaded it will definitely work.

EDIT: US and Canada v8.80 SD card currently does NOT work. We're looking into having the compatibility removed from the website.

    All the best,

    Hi Ditte,

I have bought TT 25 last week which arrived yesterday. I used TT yesterday and it worked fine.  I also bought USA and Canada maps on sd card from TT which arrived today. As per the instaructions, I put the micro sd card in TT 25 and switched it on. Immdiately a message popped up saying you need to format the sd card. I clicked on NO. I then went to settings and switch maps. To my horror,  It shows only Europe maps and nothing for USA maps.

There are no other instructions. Please tell me that the maps are OK and there is another way to switch the maps. Your help will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi,

did you purchase the correct SD card? There are two different SD cards available. One for NAV2 and one for NAV3 devices. You'll need the one for NAV3 devices. Sometimes still there seems to be an error.

Please contact support to ask for a refund. The best way is to purchase just any microSDHC card with up to 32GB (8GB is usually enough) with the card being at least a Class6 card. The larger the card the higher the class should be.
Then just purchase and download the map to your device. The download's destination will automatically be the sd card as there won't be enough capacity left on the internal memory.

You may also speak with customer support and ask them if they'll just make you the map available for download as you should be able to just format the card you've gotten and then download the map to that card.

    Regards
    Lars.

    Hi Lars

I bought TT 25 from Amazon last Friday and I bought micro sd card direct from TT site using the link given by Ditte above on the same day. On my invoice sd card is described as 9UCA.058.11 (ROOD-10) but on the sdcard storage package there is a lable that says 2UCA.058.11. I wonder if this is wrong sd card. There is an instruction card that came with the sd card which mentions that this card is compatible with TT 25.

If it is wrong, how do I go about getting it replaced with the right one?

    Thanks

    Hi

Just noticed that my TT 25 serial no. is BL3121...  This is the one that has problems utilising sd cards.

Is this the reason my TT25 cannot see the USA micro sd card?

it might be that that is the reason you're having troubles but I don't know for sure. I'll have to gather some information regarding this myself.
