    HI Ditte -

Exciting to see the next generation evolving!

Being an owner of a 2535 M Live since April, I immediately focused on the press release statement reading, "Users of the GO LIVE 2535 M will also be able to download these Apps to their existing device through a software update this fall." Is there an anticpated release date for these features for my device?

Thanks in advance for whatever info you can provide about this.

Wow! Great news indeed. I'm looking forward to trying this out for my holiday driving later this year!

It's also nice to see that Canada is finally getting LIVE Services (even though I don't live there or drive there).

Boy, do I ever agree, Kex. Have been waiting forever it seems.

Seriously, I think Canada is the last of the so-called English speaking nations to have it after the UK, US, NZ, Australia and South Africa.

    How sweet it is !!!t"

TomTom announces Go Live 1535M in all its app-wielding glory, offers dashboard tweeting

If you're a fan of TomTom's Go Live series of nav units, you'll get a kick out of what the company announced today. Hitting retail and online stores in October is "the world's first portable navigation device with a suite of popular travel apps," the Go Live 1535M. That's right folks, this piece of dashboard flair will allow you to use Yelp, TripAdvisor, Expedia and Twitter all from the comfort of its 5-inch touchscreen. In addition to the new application integration, the GPS juggernaut's classic features will be available as well: hands-free calling, real-time traffic info, local search, fuel prices and weather forecasts. Sounds great, right? But what's that... you already sprung for the 2535M model? No worries, mates -- you'll be able to download the new features this fall via software update. Pricing for these app-enabled navigators will start at $250 which includes a free 12-month subscription to TomTom Live services. Pretty soon, you'll be able to make that dinner reservation while TomTom tells you how to get there, seconds before you tweet about it. "

I dont understand why tomtom doesnt have gmail or yahoo mail.. So when you get to a hotel room what good does it do to announce that your there? Isnt the point of getting the live so you dont need to have an iphone of htc android phone etc. etc. I mean live is good to find pois that are hard to find but forcing you to communicate on twitter kinda of sucks and what if you dont have a phone and u need to tell your gf to get u condoms at walgreens or if u need to pick up tampons.. twitter isnt the answer for communication If you cant text then email is the only other option and with live you dont get that feauture the tomtom commercial is stupid they say when you find a hotel u can announce your at the hotel from twitter? Twitter is okay but for nfl players wanting attention, or reviews, but to use a primary communication.. Why couldnt they get gmail or yahoo mail over twitter?

Atom_9 wrote: ... I dont understand why tomtom doesnt have gmail or yahoo mail. ...

I don't think it's intended to supplant other forms of communication, such as e-mailing from your smartphone, laptop or netbook. It just means that you don't have to take your mind off your driving, or your hands off the wheel, to alert people you intend to meet at your destination if you get delayed (if your TomTom recalculates the route, for example, due to traffic), or when you're getting close. It simply allows you to "text" your whereabouts to those waiting for you to arrive, instead of having to call them to tell them you just turned off the freeway and inform them of the current estimated arrival time calculated by your TomTom ....

Connecting the function with gmail or Yahoo! would mean supporting every popular e-mail service in the World (not just North America), and e-mails are not limited in length, so there is that problem as well. Twitter, being limited in length, probably makes it much easier to include the function worldwide, without risk of using too much bandwidth. Twitter is available to anyone with a gmail, Yahoo! or any other account.

You could make that argument but before you do take in consideration that cell phone providers are making billions and that is hurting GPS companies. Most Android users who have google use Google maps,,, even though Google maps might not be the most accurate they can always find what they want on the internet, so for those non android phone users who dont want to pay the 100 dollars (surcharges, taxes) x 24 = 2400 dollars for 2 years + the 199.99 for the Android phone which is roughly 2600 hundred dollars, very expensive for a android phone which must users have a 2g cap. However the point being is that Google maps on the Android phones are fast. efficient, and picks up restaurants that have closed, relocated. This is why the tomtom go live is so vital it allows those android users to get rid of there phones since they have relied on them for GPS tracking devices. I got rid of my android phone and bought a Garmin 40LM the newest device and with a current map of July of 2011 yet it couldnt find any VA hospitals, while the android phone was ablle, to the restaurants that relocated it had me go to there old address. So if I dont know the address of the location I am going to then the garmin to me is pointless! I returned that junk! this is why the Tom tom Live is competitng with an android phone; I realize go live new device is not a phone okay, never thought it would be but if it has the functions to the interent why not gmail? why cant you use yahoo mail? I rather use gmail or yahoo mail all together and get rid of Twitter... who cares what Ocho Cincho has to say on his twitter page.. or that Britney spears had for breakfast? Why is gmail function blocked? I also rather use facebook than twitter... who decides this? My argument is if twitter is not designed as a form of communication than why is tomtom's commerical clearly saying when you get to the hotel you can use twitter to let them know when you arrived? that to me surely seems like tomtom is trying to advertise is it a form of commuication? so when u have down time you can read what dwayne wade had to say about the MIAMI heat? I rather just use my notebook computer on the wifi when I get to my destination.. I just dont get the twitter thing?

So the question here is do you feel comfortable with providing your where abouts on twitter? Imagine if  Jessica Alba

tweeter her where about to her husband because she was running late.. then you had 2 thousand people at her hotel? Im just saying twitter would be the last place a person would want to tell there where abouts,, unless your having a function for your company and you want the general public to know your where abouts

Will this be released to all Live navigation devices? (All Live devices connecting to myTomTom?)

Since it first comes out in the US, Germany and New Zealand, will the new live services become available over time for the other countries on the current devices?

Finally, i'm from Belgium so when I want to travel to Germany then I can make use of the new services in the supported country?

    Thanks in advance :smileyhappy:

Wow you must have a really crappy cell phone if you had a Android phone like the HTC Evo or the Motorola Droid you might change your mind which is a 4.3 screen. You can always buy a mounting device to hold it on on the car. Actually android phones that is powered by google is superior to any gps devices because you never have to upload a map nor do you ever have to stop in a gas station to look for a missing point of interest... This is why TOMTOM got the message and now uses Google live because this means no more trying to find that restaurant that relocated 3 miles away, while a non live tomtom would tell you to go to the old address: Also the Google maps arent that bad but I do not have an Android phone and if tomtom has this new live it would prevent me from buying an android phone. This would save me $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ a year and only pay the 60 dollars a year which is well worth it.

Cant wait until Oct or should I wait until black friday to get it?? temptation never tasted so good

I am very familiar with Adroid HTC phones. My son just graduated from a US University & worked for Best Buy in Wilmington NC. while his wife finished her Med degree there. He had HTC that we never saw here & far better plans.

A friend who drives a Jag XKR & a Land Rover with in dash GPS & also the lattest phones just bought a TT . He liker me prefers a portable 5" screen.that he can input with large letters etc.

Good point - and it's easily addressed via Private Tweets. I can set up a twitter account for general use - where I DO want the world to know what kind of sushi roll I just ordered, or what I think of cloud services to replace bricks and mortar - and as you note, that's may not the best place to also post my whereabouts whenever I drive -- totally depends on my followers, my age, and other personal considerations.

I can, however, set up a second Twitter account, e.g., @where_in_the_world_is_jon, and set it as PRIVATE. That way the only people who will see tweets from the account are those that I approve - period. This second, private, account is the one I would share with people who I want to know about my travels. Also helps them, because they can see from the account name that the tweet is a trip report from me and not a regular tweet -- and when I'm not traveling and tweeting my location, they won't be bothered by that account at all.

That solves the problem you raised (which is a good consideration), and when you combine it with Kex's comments above, it seems pretty clear to me that Twitter is an excellent tool for this purpose.

Jon sounds real complicated to me... so if are telling your girlfriend to make sure she buys condoms because your at the hotel you have to make it private to only her? how long will those settings take? then you have to tell her not to expect a gmail email or text that you can only communicate by twitter: so if she doesnt have an android phone on her she cant get that tweet: then she has to set up a twitter account to tweet back and hopes it is on "private setting" so if she tweets no need for condoms Im preggers" she has to make sure that her husband doesnt find on on twitter.... to me it sounds like a twitter mess: I rather take a chemistry exam than figure out the settings for twitter, also take in consideration many times twitter is over capacitated and you cant get on the network so what good is it to announce to anyone where you are? if you cant even tweet which happens several times a day:

Atom_9, in your case, I think it may be advisable to:

    1. Use the hands free Bluetooth feature to call your GF, so that she doesn't forget the condoms.
    2. Buy some yourself, just in case she forgets.
    3. Get a picture of her husband to make sure that he's not bigger, faster, and stronger than you!
    4. Start a petition for TomTom to include a "moral guidance" feature in the "Help Me" menu.
