Even to the UK it took just over two weeks and got it from Holland. As soon as it got posted via UPS the delivery was fairly quick. As per the CS, they ran out of stock and were awaiting for the new stock. Worst case scenario, you can get some from a popular auction site, but obviously the price is much more... Be careful, as long as it is the US or EU version, you are good to go, but the UK version has only 2GB of memory!!! Do not buy any with FT serial so far as the SD slot is de-activated yet. Later on those will be just as good as well.

I haven't the budget to go with a jacked-up eBay price, nor (with this current experience) the good faith in TomTom. If they don't deliver this order, with this product, all specifications as promoted, my money will go to another company entirely.

Out of curiosity, has ANYONE ordering from the USA got one of these yet? Or even notice of shipment?

I've been waiting for mine to ship, since I ordered t October 9th! I am in the US and they replied to my support email that they are waiting for it to get to the wherehouse to ship. That was a week and a half ago. Still nothing. Getting very frustrated.

That, at least, is more than I've been able to get out of anyone from TomTom...

Despite my many emails and phone calls to cancel, my USA order has shipped.  :smileyindifferent:

If my credit card company does indeed reject the charge, TomTom better **bleep** well provide prepaid return.  I'm not spending a dime on returning this thing.

I sent an angry but polite email today through the Customer Service "ask a question" form; an hour later I got a form email saying my unit had shipped and would be delivered "within four business days, within seven days in non-EU countries."

Since: (a) the UPS tracking number does not work and doesn't even seem to be the right format for a UPS tracking number; (b) the invoice for the shipment originates from Cambridge, Massachusetts and not Holland or the UK, and thus has nothing to do with the EU; and (c) I paid express/overnight shipping rates, well, all of that leaves me less than confident that the form letter is accurate...

Mine was shipped via FedEx (in the USA).  I picked the cheapest shipping option.

Mine was shipped the minute I got on the phone with someone from TomTom support. It's currently in Texas. I got the cheapest shipping also. The email said it was coming from UPS but I guess it was wrong since the tracker is working with fedex and not with UPS.

Thanks; when I went to FedEx instead of using the links TomTom embedded in their email, the package turned up just fine. The fact that TomTom's automated system can't be bothered to tell the difference between FedEx and UPS when sending out emails, though, gives me grave concerns about the product. If they program the box the same way they've programmed their automated customer service, I may end up in Atlantis...

Well, instead of it saying "Recalculating"  it should have Jeremy screaming, "YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAAAAAY!!!!"

OK, it arrived today- by FedEx two-day service, not overnight. "Express" means different things to different people.

The machine seems to work; it had the cord and charger in the box; the SD slot is present, or something that looks much like one anyway. Interestingly, it seems that my stretch of highway, way out in the woods, does not have box numbers entered into whatever database TomTom uses; it couldn't find my house when I keyed in the address.

And some features, it appears, will have to wait until I get closer to whatever cellular service network TomTom LIVE uses.

But I have it, it is more or less as advertised, and I'll stop whining now- except to point out that I never have learned what the delay was.

    Hiya,

About some of those missing options/features, you can check up other topics (just like this: http://discussions.tomtom.com/t5/TomTom-GO-800-1000-2000-Via/I-Want-The-Functionality-I-Paid-For/td-p/111291)

Zsolt: Thanks, but I already knew why I wasn't getting full functionality; my home is in what for most cellular services is a dead zone. Once I got into civilization, the services all became available, no problem.

I'm finding the device pretty easy to use. Jezza doesn't talk nearly as much as I'd expected... but on the other hand, that makes him less annoying, doesn't it? }:-{D

Jimskii - assuming you have downloaded MyTomTom (TT Home does not work with the newer devices) click on the TT logo on your taskbar, bottom right of your screen, (NOT the MyTomTom button on the browser page when you connect the device) you will see the Add Community Content button there.

Anybody else in UK - I hear TT are adding a new instruction for Jezza's voice: "The delay has been caused by a procession of striking public sector workers - increase speed and MOW THEM DOWN!".

If US and other users are puzzled by this reference just Google "Clarkson BBC strikers".......

For those not in Britain to read the tabloids there (well, including me, but I Googled it):

Clarkson has apologized for the "shoot them" remark; it was meant to be a joke about the BBC's fairness policy of BBC presenters not taking sides on an issue. (He'd just before said he was in favor of the protests because it "cleared the roadways.") The joke failed, but it WAS a joke- not any kind of serious argument about shooting protesters.

His article about people who throw themselves on train tracks and roadways to suicide being selfish bastards, though... no apolgies for that one yet that I know of.

And his private life is his own- NOT our business. (If only my fellow Americans would get that in their heads re: our own crop of celebrities...)

Anyway, to put this back on topic, the micro-SD card reader in my device won't read either of the cards I've tried in it (a 2 GB and a 4 GB). What's up?

Hi there, Don't get stressed about that. On none of the Top Gear units it works at all. It was promised that a new software was about to be developed and released by the end of November and it never happened... Another empty Tomtom promise. It won't read any cards at all until Tomtom will enable it.

I'm afraid I haven't gone looking much for the Top Gear PoI; the device is stuffed so full with PoI that it's actually frustrating trying to find what's wanted. That said, I haven't driven near the one racetrack (Texas Motor Speedway) that I think might be on said list, so I don't know if it'll flag it or anything yet.

Have you seen the cheeky buggers? Changed the specs on most of the units... At the memory card slot you will find this now: SD Slot Yes* - *Will be enabled with a new, free Software release How nice is that from Tomtom to enable it via a FREE software update. However we don't know yet when...again... Maybe by 2020
