Hello,

I have recently bought a TomTom Go 520/Wi-Fi and as suggested I've downloaded MyDrive Connect on to my computer.
When I log in all I get is a screen with no discernible icons/buttons or menus to activate the downloading of maps, updates.
I have working icons in the top right hand corner and a large banner in the centre with the wording "Update your go520/go 520 professional 520 the easy way" I can click "How to get updates on your device" on the aforementioned banner but that sends me to a series oh help pages. There's nothing there that I can see that's helpful. I'm supposed to get a task bar in the top LH corner, but alas, nothing.
I've downloaded and reinstalled MD Connect on 3 occasions but still no joy. I even downloaded TT Home to see if that was any help (I know it's not intended to work together, but sometimes you get more than a little desperate).
I'm using Windows 7 32 bit so I don't think there's an issue there. Windows Device Manager knows the TT is there, and it tells me it's working.
It took me a week simply to get it to load the first map and that was by plugging the Go520 directly into the back of my router.

So, what is wrong? Is it what I'm doing, or, are there other issues.

Finally, I'm really not enamoured with TomTom at present, and I'm being really, really nice when I say that.
Hopefully one of you kind souls will put me out of my misery (In the nicest possible way!!) and give me some pointers.

Regards
Quincy AKA Grumpy old sod! (My sons description I might add)

@Richies Dad

I tried to set up a Go 6200 today and experienced the same issues as yourself re MyDrive Connect. That the instructions given on screen could not be easily followed. I had first wanted to 'add the Device' to my TomTom Account as is the norm, but I do not believe it is possible for my latest device; the 6200?

I disabled both Bluetooth and Wif-Fi and then reconnected the Go 6200 to my Computer using the USB cable.

The same screen popped up "Update your 'Go 6200' the easy way" .............How to get updates on your device.

I then went back onto the 6200 :

Tapping the main menu option.
Tap Settings, then tap Updates and New Items.
You should be able to see available updates or a message that tells you that your device is up to date.

I was then able to update the 6200 with the latest software / maps and proved to myself as I had disabled Wifi that my internet connection was being used by the 6200 device connected by USB cable through MyDriveConnect. I would think that even if I had Wifi connected to my device; it would still use my Internet connection through MyDriveConnect as long as it was connected by USB cable.

I came to the conclusion that instead of checking for and installing updates in MyDrive Connect (as I have done on earlier versions), all the checking / control for this generation of device is now made through the "actual device" itself. (TomTom I guess would prefer that we use the Wifi option as it says so in the pop up screen banner when connecting )

If you wanted to add a map:

Tapping the main menu option.
Tap Settings, then tap Maps.
You should be able to see available Maps.

I hope that helps and makes sense :)

As another "old grumpy" to another, to start with look at page 10 of the manual http://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals/gox20x/refman/TomTom-GO-EU-RG-en-gb.pdf
then look at what else your device is capable of

    @Niall

Many thanks for the very quick response.
I've tried to fathom the manual and look at many of the steps in there to see if anything is relevant.
I've concentrated on the section "Syncing using TT MyDrive" P.35 onwards to glean the answers I need.
It's appears that My PC see's the Go device but won't communicate with the PC/MyDrive Connect. It's the lack of functionality on the PC's programme/monitor. Why can't I see ANY icons??
When I log in using the Go device, it recognises my log in details and it tells me "Destinations, place lists and fav's on this device are automatically synced with MyDrive". It's telling me I'm "Logged in as......" and even an icon telling me that I can "Stop Syncing"
I go back to the maps view ,as described in page 35, steps 1-5 "Logging in to MyDrive on your GO", but then nothing.
If it is syncing with my PC/MD Connect, why is there no interaction, no communication between PC and Device? If it's syncing, where's the data being stored? If I can find a downloaded file (on my hard drive) and know that it has backed up the Go, then I'd be reasonably happy.
What happens if I do need to plan routes prior to logging in to the MyDrive on the Go? (P.36) What if I want to download different POI's for the Go, (P.38)?
There's nothing on the MY Drive Connect log in page on my PC's Monitor that will let me interact with that programme!
The Go device appears to be doing what it's supposed to. It's the functionality/usefulness of the downloaded computer version of MyDrive Connect that I have a gripe with.

Please help Niall, please, please, please!!

    Hi
Whatever the connection method USB or Wifi... On the latest NAV5 Wifi Device ALL of the updating is executed on the device... MyDrive Connect will only show the splash screen in the centre with the wording "Update your go520/go 520 professional 520 the easy way" etc...

Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Updates & New Items
Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Maps

POI's & Routes are added using the MyDrive (Web) Route planner.....
    https://mydrive.tomtom.com/en_gb/
Use the same login credentials as your Tomtom Account
On the Device log into MyDrive... Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> MyDrive
Use the same login credentials as your Tomtom Account
This will enable the Routes, POI Categories, MyPlaces etc... to sync across to your Device

    Hi everybody,

Many thanks to you all for the help you've given.
Hopefully you can see the frustration that I have had with this matter. If a manual tells you how something should work and it doesn't work, then you question why. You don't think "Ah, they've changed how it works"
Come on TT, Sort yourselves out.
    Once again many,many,thanks.
Just have to figure out how to do a backup now!

    Quincy
