My TomTom One 3rd edition. was working fine, until on a trip back from Canada near border, it hung. We then used the reset on the bottom as the top button had no function!

Have now re-formatted and reloaded using TomTom web site. Still "TomTom One 3rd edition. Hangs on splash screen"!

Looking for help / advice anywhere now.

    Clear the memory with the flash tool

    Read the following article:

    http://us.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6211/kw/clear%20flash%20tool/sno/1

    Turn the device off and on to run the flash tool after its installed.

    Used the "Clear Flash tool" with files in place. No difference in operation.

    Erased files on TomTom, then used  "Clear Flash tool" again, three times.

    Hide TomTom Directory in TomTom Home 2.82.2264!!!    SHOULD I BE USING TomTom Home or My TomTom???

    Anyway, now see 1/2 white screen, 1/2 TomTom logo w/ hands, or upon reseting and restarting 100% white screen.

    Have done the check Microsoft drive repair, however no poblem found.

    You need the TomTom Home Support Application.

    Try the following:

    • Connect the device to the computer;
    • Go to 'my computer';
    • Open the hard drive contents of the navigation device;
    • Open the folder which has the name of the installed map;
    • Hover over the file 'mapsettings.cfg', press F2 to rename;
    • Rename the file to 'mapsettings(backup).cfg';
    • Close the opened folder;
    • Safely disconnect the device from the computer;
    • Power of the device;
    • Power on the device;

    Is the device able to bypass the startup screen? If yes, then you have to reconfigure alle the settings where desired, because the mapsettings.cfg file contains all the settings and favourite locations.

    You can safely remove the mapsettings(backup).cfg file from the map folder.

    When the issue still appears, then you can rename the mapsettings(backup).cfg back to mapsettings.cfg to restore all your settings and favourites.

    Hi,

    The best I get by renaming "mapsettings.cfg to mapsettings(backup).cfg is 1/2 left side blanked screen (a little different that a full white screen of death, missing blue bar on bottom) and 1/2 right side splash screen, then hangs.

    Changed mapsettings(backup).cfg back to mapsettings.cfg, then returnes "white full screen of death).

    Do you know the boot up file sequence, seems like:

    1) TomTom logo w/ sound

    2) splash screen

    3) ???

    Is the sequence listed some place??

    I don't know what the sequence is but you can try the following:

    Backup

    Make a full backup of the navigation device if not already done:

    The importance of making a backup by Surveyor860 (hyperlink)

    Remove all previous downloads in TomTom Home

    • Start TomTom Home;
    • In the menu go to 'extra - home preferences';
    • Click on the tab 'Folders';
    • The path of the download folder is selected, right click in the text field and select 'copy';
    • Click on the 'x' button in the upper right corner;
    • Right click on the TomTom Home icon in the system tray and select 'close';
    • Press windows key + r, a output screen appears;
    • Click in the text field and press ctrl + v to paste the previous copied location of the download folder;
    • Press enter;
    • The download folder will open;
    • You'll see a folder 'completed';
    • Open the folder;
    • Select the folder 'App', 'Navcore' or 'Navigator' or something similiar (I don't know exactly what the download folder is for the navigator;:smileywink:
    • Delete the folder from the computer;
    • Close the window;

    TomTom Home

    • Go to the windows logo in the system tray;
    • Go to all programs - TomTom - TomTom Home - click on the TomTom Home shortcut;

    Remove the navigator version with TomTom Home

    http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6953/kw/remove%20map

    1. Connect your navigation device to your computer. Switch on your device.
      TomTom HOME starts.
    2. Click Manage my device in TomTom HOME and select the Items on device tab.
    3. Expand Navigator and then select the navigator version you want to remove.
    4. Click Remove selected items

      Click OK to delete the navigator.
    5. When a setting appears to backup the navigator to the computer - deselect the option;

       Important:

      Your device will not function correctly without a navigator operating system.

    Download and reinstall the navigator version

    • In the main menu, click on the button 'Search for updates';
    • The navigator is re-offered to download;
    • Download and install the navigator version;
    • Safely disconnect the device from the computer;

    When everything's working fine, make a full backup of the navigation device.

    hi, I don't know if you managed to fix this but I was having the same problem and fixed it by

    Launch tomtom home

    Press reset button to power down device

    connect device to computer

    power device on holding down on button until you hear the drum sound

    In the main interface of tomtom home choose "back up and restore" on page 2

    then choose restore

    it will reload all the files to your device which takes 5 minutes or so

    eject device using the small symbol at bottom left of the tomtom home window

    device should start normally

    hope this works for you ;)
