Hi,

I have a TomTom Go 730, which had Western Europe Maps on.

I have recently paid for Europe maps, which was about a 2.5Gb download, via TomTom HOME.

Home saved the map to the 4Gb SD card (formatted in FAT32), and it seems as if it has transfered the Western maps to the SD card too.

Everything seemed to go OK, and install properly, but when I disconnect the tomtom from my PC (correctly), and power up the tomtom, it now says No maps found! When turning on the tomtom, the small SD card symbol flashes up for a short time, but then it seems to just read from the tomtoms memory, which obviously doesn't have anything on now.

How can I get the tomtom to read the SD card and not its own memory?

If I go My Computer -> Removable Drive (H:), it shows two folders in there: maps and Western_and_Centeral_Europe_2Gb

Is that the correct format for the tomtom to be able to read the maps?

Any advice and or tips would be great! I have tried re-formatting the SD Card, and reloading the maps via HOME, but to no avail.

Thanks a lot

What happens when you go to Operate My Device in TT HOME? Does it show the map, or the same message you've got?

Worst case scenario, try this:

1. Save everything from the device, using Explorer (or Finder on Mac), include all the files (hidden as well). It is also known as a manual backup: http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13354/

2. Then format the internal storage (or memory card, depending which one you use) of your device. http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16172/

3. Go to TT HOME, Manage my "DEVICE", delete everything from the hard drive and try the update again.

4. Copy your voices and post codes back to the devices (also the maps if that didn't download either).

First, try the reset hole on the bottom of the unit.

And to confirm, is it a SD or a SDHC card? It should be the latter and at least a class 6 (speed wise).

    But do the pin reset...........

    Hi,

I have reset it (with the button at the bottom with a paper clip), but it didn't solve the issue.

Also, sorry yes it is a Kingston 4Gb SD HC card. SD4/4GB

And when you go to Manage maps-->switch maps, there is nothing listed?

Do you mean in HOME? If I go to 'Manage My GO', then Items on device, it does show the maps.

OR, do you mean on the actual device itself? As without sounding stupid, how do you do that? As when I turn it on, and it loads up, it just says the No maps found, and touching the screen doesn't do anything?

    Hi, Thanks for the reply.

In TT HOME, the option to Operate my Device never seemed to work giving some error.

BUT, I now have my maps back!! Thanks Zsolt. I followed your instructions, and it worked wonders.

Just for a quick overview on what I did incase it can help anyone else, although it is still the same guide which Zsolt posted:

    - Copied all the files from the device and SD Card, and saved them on my PC

    - Formatted the SD Card

    - Formatted the Device

    - Opened HOME and deleted all files from my PC via Manage My GO: Remove items from Computer

    - Then I went to Update My GO, making sure the SD Card was selected to download the files on to

    - TT HOME then did the rest!

I'm not sure what really went wrong the first time, as my device has always been flawless, but updating the maps broke something somewhere!

Happy it is now fixed though.

    Thanks a lot

With reference to the "No maps found" message, I'm starting to see it in my sleep!!

I've tried all the suggested methods and a few others too, but to no avail!

I'm not sure if it's because I'm now using a MacBook, where previously I downloaded and installed maps from a PC, but whatever it is my Go730 is obstinately refusing to play ball.

I've now exceeded my monthly broadband limit, because I thought that the previously dowmloaded map of Western Europe was somehow corrupted, so deleted and re-downloaded it.

I was looking at performing a manual download into the SDHC memory card, but can't find an "Activation_"Map"_.cab file and wondered if that was a necessary file that was missing from my download.

Any help that is available will be gratefully received, as I'm due out in Germany/Netherlands next month and I'm literally lost without "Tommy"!

I have the same proble. Still trying to solve. However, I never did back up my Go after the 1st installation. That enabled me to restore the original installation and my Go works again. However I have tried updating the map and it goes back in to error after it says that the map is installed to SD card. I am in the middle of solving this proble. However, I get the beast to work after restoring again. Maybe you should try this as a temporary solution? My next trick will be to install a new compatible SD card formatted Fat32

had the same problem, i updated my map of western europe. When i turned my tom tom 730 on, it would not see the map.

my solution: I took the SD card out and put it directin in my coputer. that promts tom tom home to open.

I updated my divice (the SD card ) via tom tom home. that way i think it copies the program itself on the SD card

remove SD card from computer, back in tomtom device, start up. still no map of western europe

repeat:  revome SD card from tomtom, back in cokmputer: update again ( i guess it updates something different now)

SD card back in tomtom: IT WORKS !!

    hope that helps

    I have the same problem,

No maps found after update, downloading the maps again doesn' help. I don't have another memory card reader so I cannot try connecting the SD card to the computer without the TomTom navigator.

It is very frustrating that the TomTom user guide doesn't even have any kind of troubleshooting section, so answers to any problems must be searched from this forum.

I have tried everything on previous pages. i think that there is a file missing because i have had a look at the files and also the file currentmap.dat is still showing as my old map of gb & ireland so i think that the issue is with the install. Bit of a pain as i am leaving for Europe today and now have no map

    Hi,

I've had the same problem - "no maps found" message after updating the maps.

The solution in my case was to remove the navigator software from the device and from the backup on the computer. Then the software is listed in the list of available updates. Download and install it (this took two rounds of downloading and restarting the device) - and make sure it installs on the hard disk, not the memory card (it should do that automatically). After that I could use the maps again.

This was because the old software could not read the updated maps, and TomTom Home did not understand that the software should be updated.

    Hi,

I'm very much a newbie to TomTom Forums and the GPS itself. In fact, this is my first ever car and GPS.

This is kind of relevant to this question.

I have a TomTom ViA 1605TM. I updated the current US/ Canada map on the internal storage.

Bought a new 16GB Micro SDHC card. Inserted it into my phone (don't have any other adapter to use to put it into the computer), and then formatted it from there. There is no data on the SD Card.

Then I inserted it into the TomTom. I see the message "Checking the SD Card" on the TomTom, but NOTHING on the computer.

    I did the following:

    - removed the SD Card, turned off the laptop

    - turned on the laptop

    - started MyTom Tom.

    - inserted the SD card and connected the Tom Tom to the laptop

    Still nothing.

Put the SD card in my mobile to test if it works there - a second time. Yes, I am able to see the card, and 14.9 GB of usable storage.

    Questions:

What am I doing wrong and what needs to be done for me to see the SD card that I insert into the GPS, in my laptop as a removable device?

Once the above could be resolved, I have additional questions:'

    1. How to move maps from internal storage to the SD card? I see that MyTomTom stores the data under C:Users<AppDataLocalTomTomHOME3cache" but I also see "HOME" and "HOME3" folders there under "TomTom" folder. so I'm a bit confused.

    2. Can I play music from the GPS? If so, what is the process?

Thank you to all who read and respond to this query.

    KC

    Welcome to the forum kach1947

To format your SDHC card your need to insert it into the slot and perform a Soft-reset
Your device will recognize the new card and ask to format it to which you answer "Yes"
Once formatted in TomTom proprietary format, you will not to be able to read the card on any computer.

    To Answer your additional questions
A1) MyTomTom decides where to place maps, not the user, as it only uses the card if the internal drive has insufficient space to place a downloaded new map.

A2) Unfortunately none of the new NAV3/NAV4 device are able to play media files

I was attempting to update my Go730 both device and maps of USA and Canada and North America. It loaded the device ok and updated the old map ok.  I loaded a new map to a SANDISK SDHC 4gb card, There was an issue loading part of the map so I cleaned every map off from device and computer and started over.  I loaded the maps to the card and not device memory. Now TT Home would give the 'No maps found' message. When disconnected from computer the device works fine.

I after trying everything I could think of I removed the North Am. map from the card and installed it on the device memory now TT Home recognizes that map.  When I check the device memory on TT Home it shows both maps, one on internal memory and the other on the card.

The issue is the older N America map is full of errors and the  USA and Canada map is more accurate but too large for device memory. The TT home will not read the map from the card and the device will only read the map on the card if no map is in its internal memory otherwise it reads the map from internal memory.

Any ideas on this?  i have submitted this to support also.  Also on Tom Tom's page there is a side note saying map version 940.xxx is no good and there is a new version 941.xxx but it can not be found any where to load.

Look in the "maps" folder on the device, and delete the northamerica.tlv and the usacan.tlv files.

Those are locator "shortcuts" on the drive and can confuse Home into misunderstanding what is/isn't on the device.   Once deleted, home inspects the actual device and may no longer report missing maps.

If that is the case you can remove the old north America map and the USA/Can should work fine.
