Tomtom Home problems


Tomtom home is a complete mess of a software. How can someone publish something like this is beyond my comprehension, but I will describe my situation to, without any hope, try to find a solution.

Today, I bought a map on the website to use on my grandfather's Tomtom XL. He wanted to update his Iberia map.

Logged on the website with his account (the email which is associated with his device), searched the map, and bought it with no problems whatsoever (payment by Paypal).

After starting TomTom Home on his computer, it asked to install the new version (2.9.7.3256) which downloaded and installed fine.

When I started the application again, I logged in with my grandfather's account and tried to update the GPS unit to the latest map. Unfortunately, all I got was a 407 error and no new map neither software updates. I tried several steps to try and fix the issue none worked, including:

- disabling the firewall and antivirus;

- uninstalling and resintalling Tomtom Home (with and withou Revo uninstaller);

- cleaning the system with CCLeaner;

- formating the device;

- intalling Tomtom Home on ANOTHER computer;

Nothing worked. Worse, After I installed Tomtom Home on my computer I got the "System reserved popup" bug. I don't know why the software messes with that but it's completely unnaceptable.

As you can see, it's not a network problem.

Now, even if I wanted a refund for the map (which I was NEVER able to download) I have to call TomTom and spend even more money.

Useless to say, but this is the last time anyone on my family will ever buy something from Tomtom.

For devices using TomTom HOME, you can buy maps only via TomTom HOME. If you buy a map directly from their web shop, it will allocate the wrong map most probably. Send them a mail, it is free of charge. Contact link in my signature. If it says the device is legacy, just pick a newer model from the list.
Thanks for your reply Zsolt. Even if the map I purchased isn't the correct one, I'll still have a problem since everytime I try to update de GPS via TomTom Home I get the 407 error.

I will mail TomTom customer service to try and fix this issue.
I bought this device and then tried to update.  But, rather than update using the web site I found that it will cause they system to fail and now the device will not operate.  What is the point associated with this service?  What a waste of money.  I am really upset that I cannot use the gps at all.  No help what-so-ever.  This must be the latest in American products.  Spend your money and watch it evaporate.  Completely frustrated.  In short, I agree with the negative comments.  This company should fail.  Buyer beware.  Note: the system takes about 3 hours to go through the tasks and with two to complete stops.  Try again, but again it fails.  After which the device says that there are no maps to use.  Why?  RB

After getting in contact with customer support, I was finally able to install the "new" map which I bought.
