Cannot use this map on this device

I have a TomTom XL which is a few years old and recently connected to my PC for the first time to update the maps (Western & central Europe 2GB 132). I now get a 'Problem with map' message.

I have searched these forums and found other threads for the same problem but not one that solves my problem

I have rebooted, deleted, reinstalled and rebooted again and I still have the same problem.

Do I need to contact the TT help line or is there a known fix for this?

If the map on the device was legitimately obtained (from TomTom) then it's best you contact CS:" rel="nofollow" target="_blank

Have you tried this?

1. Save everything from the device, using Explorer (or Finder on Mac), include all the files (hidden as well). It is also known as a manual backup:" target="_blank

2. Then format the internal storage (or memory card, depending which one you use) of your device. Use the COMPLETE format, not the quick." target="_blank

3. Go to TT HOME, Manage my "DEVICE", delete everything from the hard drive and try the update again (in the new TomTom HOME app it is on the second page). At this point you might have to disconnect the device a few times and switch it ON/OFF to enable it to setup some important stuff.

4. Copy your voices and post codes back to the device (also the maps if that didn't download either).
