My TOMTOM GO 930 does not start anymore. I had it connected in my car and on my computer, the green light comes on but when I press the start button nothing happens. Can anyone help me and tell me what can the problem be or what can I do to get it working again.

Thanks

OK its Saturday, a day after I wrote my first help call to the TOMTOM world, the advice I got yesterday seemed reasonable to do, unfortunately even after more then 14 hours loading the TT is still dead, so I need more help.

Could it be the batterycompletely  flat so it cant be charged anymore (it happened once to one of my cellphones), seems I have to get me a new battery and try it again. Would still be greatful if any body nows a easier solution.

The green light signifies power to the unit but not that the battery is fully charged or anywhere near that.

When you say it won't start, do you mean nothing happens or it just won't boot up?

If nothing at all, try leaving it charging for 3 or 4 hours and then try.

Thanks for the reply, I mean nothing happens, it is not booting up, it just sits here and screen stays dark.

I will do as you said, I leave it connected for the next hours and then I shall see.

    Hi DHN,

got a replay from TOMTOM (Beatrice) to load the device and then reset it . As I told you, loading did not work, or the TT did not show it to me, because it did not turn on, but I reseated it anyhow and oh wonder it worked. My TOMTOM GO 930 is doing its job again, the battery does not keep the device on for more the a minute, but this was already befor the reset and even when I bought it it would not work for a long period of time its not meant to work without being connected to some power source.

    Thanks again

    keep up your help

I think TomTom owes us our money back, or a new TT. I have a 930, very lightly used. It used to work fine. Battery light is green when plugged in, otherwise not. I have updated maps etc from the website, reset it holding it down for 15 seconds, charged it overnight. When I reset it, it gave the little drum beat, but then nothing, screen is black. I don't see any way to change the battery on this model.

Thanks, DHN. But although it says it is a pdf file, the link actually downloads an exe file and also sets up a very aggravating set of pop-up audio adds. Do I really have to run that exe file to get the pdf? And how do I get these ads to shut up?

That's strange. The link I provided is to a thread about the battery replacement. In the first post of the thread is a link to a file storage site from which the pdf file can be downloaded. No exe files are involved at all.

Can you get to the download site with the following link? http://www.mediafire.com/?hmmweumunik

Just click on the 'click here to start download' yellow box

Thanks! For some reason when I clicked on the link in the thread, no "click here to start download" appeared, only miscellaneous other download options. But this time it was there, and I got the pdf. THANKS.

    Hi DUNCANIX,

is your GO730 functioning again? Did you read my requests about the same problem but on a GO 930? Reset did help on my TT, eversince it works again, though only if connected to a power source, but this was necessarry  all the time, the battery holds the GO930 only for a very short time from the beginning on.

Wish you to get to all your places you want to go

    Hi yamahad99

I have just received an email from the satnav repair people and they have fixed it. It was the power supply and it is all working again now.

    Hi dhn

    You are a star !

Hey, I have now switched over to a Apple computer, it is running well at the momment.

    Another issue:

I am still having issues with the Internal battery inside the device.

I keep resetting it and rebooting the TomTom, and all I can see is the black screen with TomTom in the middle.

I have left it on charging.

    Can you please help ?

My TomTom GO930 suddenly stopped working. It was working as usual one day and next morning, it was dead. I have charged it for many hours (Green Charging Light is ON while connected to the charger) but it can't be turned on. It looks like the battery is dead, but I would expect to get a sign of dying battery in advance. Also, I was expecting that TomTom will work connected to the charger, even if the battery is flat... Any help appreciated. Mick Brisbane

Try a pin reset on the bottom of the unit.

If that doesn't help then, indeed, the battery may need replacing.

    Thanks dhn.

I did reset the device, (20+ sec and more) but nothing changed.  Dead as a watermelon in Sahara...

What worries me, I can't find my purchase receipt and I remember buying 5 year extended warranty...

    Cheers,

    Mick

I don't know what country you are located in but the internet is full of videos and stuff to replace the battery in that device.

    Hello Yamahad99!
I had exactly the same problema on my TomTom GO 920 (it would not give sign of life even if attached to the power source and having the green light on).
Reset solved my problem as it did for you. Thanks for posting the solution!

    Regards,
    Daniel

Hi Mick, it sounds as though you need to have the charging socket replaced. There is a few companines online that will put a new one in for you but it will cost about £50 if i remember correctly it could be more now though as i had mine repaired a few years ago now.

    Dear yamahad99,

I have exactly the same problem as you and only bought mine and used faultlessly for about 2 weeks, and suddenly died on me. Just can't start it no matter how many hours I charged it.

Where do you bring it back for repair with such great success - dealer where you bought it, or the company factory service centre? I am living in Melbourne, Australia and bought it from The Glen.

    Thanks,

First of all, please edit your post to remove what I presume is your phone number. Never EVER post personal info in a public forum!!

Now as far as phone numbers are concerned, here is the one for Cust Service. give them a call since device is under warranty:
