Today I found out the tomtom will load an internal map, even if your last used map was on a SD card, you will need to switch to it again.

TomTom Please update this so last used map will load, no matter where its located

UK Map In Use (Installed on SD Card)
EU Map installed internally

On switch on, EU map will load even if you were using the UK Map last time

Note standby still keeps using SD Map, but switch off and on it reverts to internal map

Thanks

    Hi John,

The active (last used) map is indeed loaded upon starting the device. According to our logs you have the UK map active at the moment. Where do you see it's the EU map loading up?

    Cheers, Mikko

    Hi John,

I did and it turns out I wasn't aware of this behaviour. Indeed when the device is cold started it loads up the (last active) map from the internal memory. When resuming from standby the last active map regardless of storage it's in is also resumed.

Our logs only reflect the state when you've last connected your device to your computer so indeed in this case they were not very helpful.

I'm glad we got this figured out and I learned something new as well :D My apologies for the confusion!

    Cheers, Mikko

Update, it took 2 hours to download Europe aaagggghhh before the slow speed was blamed on windows firewall, well now wifi is same over my 70gb connection, with local network 1000gb. not impressed at all

What is your actual speed? You can check it on www.speedtest.net. Also all other connected devices use bandwidth. And mind you, a full EU map is around 6.5GB.

Ha ha, just for you 77.48 and local my local 802.11ac offers up to 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps) available, nothing to do with my speed, its tomtoms slow servers. ha ha, I download 50Gb files regular in mins

Oh yer, tomtom wifi is also slow local

*tomtom only works on 2.4g cannot use faster 5g, guess its 54Mbps or less
    * 5g is much faster at my location due to congested 2.4g band
*5g newer standard that uses wider channels, QAM and spatial streams for higher throughput
