Question

Start 50 - Wrong location to where I am

Since I updated the Europe map a few days ago, my TomTom Start 50 always chooses Amsterdam as it's starting point, and that is not where I am! How can I change that? :?

When did you last get a gpsfix file for the device? Try a drum reset on the unit by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds.
I did an update just now (don't know if it included gpsfix), and a reset. But it is still on Amsterdam.
Is there a way to install gpsfix manually? I don't know where to find it.

Until your device gets a GPS fix, your device will show the capital of your country, in your case Amsterdam, in mine it is Paris, and in the UK London.

So do a soft reset, you will loose nothing, it is like rebooting your computer and reloads all the new files from an update.

A soft reset :- with your device charged for at least 2Hrs "OR" have the device plugged into a power supply; press and hold your on/off button until you hear a drum-roll sound (or the TomTom hands symbol appears) then release the on/off button. Make sure you are outside and have a clear view of the sky (satellites)
I did exactly that before. And now I did reset it again, connected to my laptop outside (on the balcony). Same result: still Amsterdam. I will try it again after 2 hours charging and further away from the house. Why does this have to be so difficult? But thank you for your answers.
I'm sure that mine usually shows my last location until it finds satellites and never London. Amsterdam is not the capital of the Netherlands either.

Huh? It's not the government center perhaps, but it IS the capital, no? At least according to the Netherlands constitution.
