Question

Double map download

On my Tomtom, on an inserted sd-card, I had a full map of Europe with buildings installed. But because of the bigger download size and because it didn't have any additional value to me, I decided to change the map to full Europe without building. All well, until a next map update... I wondered why the download took so long and it kept on going way beyond the 7 or so Gb's. And then I saw when the downloading was finished a total of around 16Gb's where downloaded and cached, so obviously now the two maps are downloaded instead of one. And there is only one installed on my system, that I can assure.
So I wrote Tomtom support but they don't seem very good at actually reading the question so my issue wasn't resolved and closed by them, and it seems there is no more support for the 5100 so I can't open a new issue, instead I am send to this forum, even though the issue has nothing to do with the device I have but with the update system.

Anyway, is there anyone who can help to solve the problem?

Hi dutchkind

It looks that your have map v10.20 Europe without buildings stored on memory card. The internal memory does not show any map installed at the moment. I am not sure about the 16GB download cached.

The cache in MyDrive Connect can be cleared by-

Right click the MyDrive Connect icon in the Windows notification area or Apple menu bar and then select > Settings.

Are you saying that you wish to install the map(Europe without buildings) on the internal memory?

I clear the cache before every update because my windows install has very little space. Because of this I can see how much is actually being downloaded when I look in the cache folder with a file manager

No, I just want to get rid of the extra download

Just a little more of explanation: I use my windows installation only to update my Tomtom, the rest of the time I use Linux. Because of this my windows partition is very small, and when I start windows once every 3 months it also starts downloading all those updates, so then an extra map download is taking so much space that the tomtom updater starts to complain even though there should be plenty of space for one map to be upated.

Hi dutchkind

As I said before the if you go to the download tab under settings you will find the option 'Empty download folder' , if you click on it, all files you downloaded using MyDrive Connect will be deleted from your computer.

Further if you want to save space on your computer when downloading these updates you can simply uncheck the option 'Download updates on my computer'

Hope this helps...

Vikram
